Alright, let me just say first that I have nothing against PC gaming and the advantages it presents. If I had a system that could handle maximum settings on modern games, I'd absolutely take advantage of it. But now allow me to divulge into my theory. I think it is a fair statement that people who cannot afford super-computer specs often are the ones who buy consoles, yes? I know it's true for my case, as a student. Now, say we're in that universe where consoles don't exist. Now we have exclusively PC gaming. But we've still got those who cannot afford the awesome systems required for maximum settings. What are they to do? They buy systems they can afford, from a couple generations ago. Now, video game producers are like any other business: they want to do what they love and make money from it. The problem is, to make said money, they need to make the game available for the greatest amount of people possible. So their game needs to be available to the majority of gamers - the ones who don't have top-of-the-line specs. These features you hail as the golden egg of gaming would still be left out in order to allow the greatest amount of people to play the game. It's the same situation happening with the App Store, some might say. Those of us who don't want to upgrade every year keep holding on to our aging devices, and developers, who want our sales, keep their games from taking full advantage of the hardware in order to allow the greatest amount of people to access their game. So perhaps consoles are holding back your experience, in the same sense that older devices do any other market. I'm just saying that the tune would be no different if consoles had never come into being.
It's not about what's better IMO, I. Think you seem mad with the way PC has been neglected by game developers lately... I can understand, Look at any retail store, either they have removed the PC games and periphials or only have 1-2 shelves for crappy games like hells kitchen... It's all digital distribution now and that shift has also moved away the idea of PC gaming from a lot of gamers minds when they walk into gamestop (hate that place btw) and see nothing but the 3 major console manufacturers... so dont think your argument about console vs pc is fair, a good pc rig is expensive and lately most of the huge titles being released in the last few years were for console... That's the publishers fault for neglecting the pc gamers in regards to designing games for the console, that's where their money is, but that's the stores fault for not stocking pc stuff anymore... So who's fault is it??? I just confused myself..
Unerstandable...but the whole cost of PC Gaming thing is overblown. For native 1080p gaming, a properly built $500 computer will be more than enough. People seem to blow things out of propertion saying that they can't afford a $1300 computer. In fact PC Gaming can actually be cheaper in the long run, since game prices come down faster for PC Games and DLC is frequently free. My computer is $550 and it can max out Crysis at 1920 x 1080. But then again there are those that can't spend more than $200 so they buy a console. Hmm.
For me, it's not so much the cost, it's the hassle. I don't want to be buying parts and always having to check the system requirements of games just for the sake of slightly improved graphics. I know some people enjoy buying new components for their PC and upgrading it, but I myself prefer the simplicity of console gaming.
Ding ding ding! I've done a good deal of PC gaming, but when it comes down to it... it's just a pain in the ass in comparison to how quick and easy a console is for a relatively similar experience. Once you learn not to suck using an analog stick and learn not to judge the size of your sexual organs by the texture resolutions your PC can push, it's not so different other than the fact it's a lot simpler, there are a lot of exclusive games and it's growing incredibly popular. It seems to me most of the people that feverishly stick up for PC gaming these days are the ones who need to stay right on the edge of technology, they need the very best to somehow prove their seriousness about gaming. In doing so they're effectively just showing everyone else how they've completely lost sight of what makes a game great. Someone playing a game on a PC isn't having any more fun than someone playing the same game on an Xbox 360. He might think he is if he's just weird like that, but he'd be wrong... and he's probably spent his paycheck on a $400 mouse. That said, a mouse is definitely the way to go for playing RTS games. Consoles have yet to replicate that ease of use with controllers but they don't particularly need to anyway, just enable mouse support and they're done. I'm thinking the main reason it hasn't happened yet is there's little call for it. RTS games aren't exactly on the up anyway.
The truth is that yes, PC gaming is more expensive and more of a hassle than console gaming. The frustration comes from from feeling betrayed when we put more effort into our gaming but developers only give us console ports. I have nothing against consoles, I just would like game developers to take advantage of my more powerful system. A good example is Crysis, Crysis 1 was an incredible game because it was huge and open. Crysis 2 is still a great game, but it lost something when they made it for consoles. I don't want to take anything away from concoles, I just wish that they would stop taking from pc players.
People still pay $50 for games? Wow. Seems so...1997. I bought a new pc with the best video card last year and I have given it all up for iPad gaming. Pc gaming feels so outdated to me. I can't even look at my 23" monitor anymore as it just pales to watching or doing anything via the iPad 2 screen. That is the last pc I will buy.
Well I will always prefer gaming on PC over console if it's available for both.. FPS just feel wrong with a joystick and when a game like portal 2 is obviously designed with console in mind first, the game suffers for those who prefer the PC version... It has nothing to do with the size of my epeen (which is huge btw) it's just a control preference mainly, but also the fact that a lot of the times my games look much better then the console version. I understand not all games are designed with PC in mind first, if at all even, so on the ports we sometimes suffer. Really that doesn't bug me though, PC has the best MMo's and some really great benefits like larger servers and better graphics then the console counterparts... So when a game is ported properly we PC gamers actually almost always fair better then our console brethren... As for the mouse is simple argument, which I've heard more than once, well everyone in game is using the exact same thing so it still comes down to skill... But if I'm offered a game with more players online, better physics, and better graphics, and that choice happens to be PC most of the time why wouldn't I take that option??? It seems the console players have a lot to prove for some reason, but there isn't really a whole lot of argument unless your talking exclusive titles and in that case all systems have a couple worth playing which I do... But if the option is there and the game is going to be better on PC, well the choice is obvious...
Game just came out and already there's a huge sale. Gamestop is offering versions as low as $39.99 and k-mart $34.99. I believe buying the ps3 version also gives you access to the steam one as well (assuming psn gets back up)
To be fair, I never hear the situation mentioned until a PC gamer enters the conversation Console gamers bicker among themselves but they tend not to care enough about PC gaming to even mention it, it's another world.
Yes and at that point is when the console gamers must flex their might and prove to the pc gamer that their choice is an inferior one... [EDIT] - That's sarcasm btw, I would say we're both guilty sir.. Maybe you mistook my declaration about battlefield being better on pc as me stating pc is the better console? But I actually had no intentions of starting a console war by that statement. I'm surprised it's gone on this long... As a console gamer myself I see the positives in both, but yes I prefer pc... Shouldn't you be busy watching the wedding of the millennia?!
I think it was that other guy in the topic that really set it off to be honest, I really just regarded what I said to you as a friendly discussion until he came in and shook things up. It probably depends where you look too, I'm always on more console-oriented websites so PC gamers intruding seems common but it's probably the opposite on PC-oriented sites. I really can't stand the wedding hype and spent the day playing Shift 2 and Borderlands. Two people I don't know and will never meet happen to like each other, how exciting! No one ever cared one bit about William until this happened, that whole family is incredibly boring. The only person I acknowledge as existing is the queen since she happens to appear on our money and stamps. Still, it's over now. Apparently 24 million people in the UK saw it on TV, that's quite impressive for a program with so little action. Congrats on the writing job BTW, I'm glad a forum regular got it. Just try not to disappear like Boardumb did
