I don't really get what their purpose is. I know what spam bots do and how they do it, but usually they're trying to point you somewhere or sell you something. The ones lately have been doing nothing. They all have the exact same presentation: - Generic introductory thread title with generic introductory "Hi, new here, yadda yadda" post that could be on any forum; no other posts in any other topic. - Default profile information (Original iPhone, v1.x OS, etc.) - They never return. No links, not even in their profile. Are these just test runs for bots or something? 'Cos they seem to serve no purpose.
I hear ya. Seen your comment just now in other thread w/ spam bot. What a waste of space. Shouldn't that be locked?
I reported it, so it's in the hands of the mods now. I mean, I'm glad it's not blatant spam or crap that someone might actually click on, even inadvertently, but stuff like this just gets my curiosity up, because it seems so pointless.
The posts usually get deleted and the bots banned once they're reported, so no, you probably won't see any right at this particular moment. But if you happen to see someone introducing themselves in the most generic manner possible, making no reference to this specific site or anything to do with iDevices, while their user profile has "Original iPhone" and "OS 1.x" in it, then you've got yourself a bot. I've seen at least three of these things the past couple of weeks.
