      ^thats my system info after a hard restart and with no safari pages open, what's the "wired" part using all my RAM

      Also, I'm not jailbroken

      "Wired" is for the iPhone OS.

      Can someone tell me why it's using 54 mb of RAM?

      Because it is constantly needing to manage menus, data, processes etc.

      There isn't really much you can do about it.
      If your device is jailbroken you can end specific processes to free up memory, via SBSettings (like a Windows Taskbar).
