i remember an old EA game called flood, was a superb platformer .. after battling your way thru numerous levels you climb out the drain and get squashed by a car ha!
I'll definitely agree with Crisis Core... Amazing ending right there. That'd be my number 1 pick if it wasn't for the Metal Gear Solid games (particularly 2).
Fable's ending was pretty cool - lets you decide to be Ultimate evil or Ultimate good. Alan Wake also had an interesting ending that I probably will never forget since it left you so confused. "It's not a lake, it's an ocean..." Braid was also very interesting due to it's metaphorical storyline that made you go "Ahhh... now I get it!"
It's actually really funny that you mention those, cause I was going to mention 2 of them. Crisis Core and Reach. Ironically both prequals to 2 really good stories, even though you knew what was going to happen, the way they portrayed them and the immense feeling of sadness and tear jerking prowess that came from those endings (Namely Crisis Core) was astounding.
Metro 2033, singularity, fallout 3, and stalker. All 4 special games, some better than others, all quite memorable. I liked dead space 2's as well just because it was so horribly dark and helpless till the final seconds, then I laughed, cried, screamed, and started it right back over again.
How had no one mentioned Bioshock? The ending, and particularly the run-up to the ending are great. I suppose I'm thinking of the last 1/4 of the game really, but no one specified how long the 'ending' was
You're completely correct. However the world of Rapture is so great and so unique, people often overlook the amazing story. Now reply to my post, would you kindly?
Definitely man... Amazing ending. I just liked the battle at the end of MGS2 enough to make it slightly better than 3's.
For me, the setting and story compliment each other so much that I find it hard to separate them in my head, neither would be as memorable without the other. Both great endings too, OOT wasn't as memorable for me, but still a classic. Can't wait to replay it on 3DS I suppose the only edge Starfox64 has over it, in terms of being memorable, is the difficulty in getting that proper ending.
It was unexpected, but it had too much of a metroid vibe Karoshis ending just spoke to me more, thus, more memorable.
"Twisted Metal: Black" had really clever, dark, ironic endings for every character. Nice reward for winning, plus a good incentive to play through the game with each character. Definitely 'twisted' stuff. And maybe the only game where I saved endings to show to friends. Then it cuts to the credits playing the Rolling Stones' song "Paint It Black." Nice touch.
Maniac Mansion. The Meteor Police. Epic. Someone hit the acid majorly before that cooked up that little gem. Actually, the fake ending was also awesomely unexpected. You turn on the nuclear reactor in the basement. Five minutes later, the mansion explodes. Game over. Or you steal Wierd Ed's hampster, put in the microwave, nuke it, and give the hampster guts back to Wierd Ed. Next thing you know, you're a tombstone. Good times, good times. Or you fill a jar from water in the pool. There's a radio in the pool, by the way. Then you put the jar in the microwave. Open the jar and you get hit with radioactive steam and die.
System Shock 2 and Deus Ex - I know the actual end levels for both games are the best compared to the early and mid level stages, but there is something about the quick change of pace that I always liked. And you can't go wrong with the System Shock 2 ending cinematic...
Couldn't agree more on that one... I used to just sit there and watch the endings to Twisted Metal 2, Head On, and Black just because they were the best part of the game. As much as I liked Head On (which I was completely hooked on for some time), I always tried to beat the campaign as quickly as I could so I could see the endings. Great, twisted stuff right there.
I was more of a fan of the part in the main story when you get to the quest "Tranquility Lane" and you are put in that pre-war neighborhood simulation. That was one of my most memorable moments in video game HISTORY. I liked that part more than the ending. The ending was just kind of silly.
