For writing or rearranging or wav editing? Hokusai is a good free wav editor I use both music studio and nano studio for overall music composition. They're both about $15-20 each. Garage band is cool, especially for the live sounding instruments but it doesn't play nice with other programs. There's lots more stuff out there. It depends on what you want to do.
Thank you for the information i think im going to check out music studio as that seems to apply to me the most.
Music studio has a more friendly user interface. I think there's a free trial if you want to see how it works. However, I discovered that I liked the synths way more in nano studio. You can't tweak much in music studio. If you're just going to put together some wav files, I think music studio would be good.
Mixing like audio/mps etc? Meteor Multitrack Recorder. Studio HD. Looptastic. Multitrack DAW. Not rally sure what your after tho
I really like Garage Band on my iPod Touch - easy to draw up quick ideas and import directly into Logic for expansion.
