Does no one see the I posted. I mean...c'mon now. All in fun. When people get it right, you'll see me stop (see, I did it again!) NPC interaction isn't limited to the adventure genre alone, nor a heavy emphasis (or even existent) in quite a few adventure games. Story? Depends. But environmental puzzles are an element of adventure games, as is heavy emphasis on exploration (as both are tied into the investigation focus of gameplay). LoZ has those things tied in with the action gameplay convention of combat. Therefore, action/adventure. See? Right there I turned serious. The rest was just poking fun at myself, tbqh. Thought the would make that clear. Guess not
And the reason I think it somewhat "important" (as far as games go, anyhow) is that if one were to recommend this game to someone by saying "it's like LoZ", and that person was a big fan of LoZ style games, they'd be mighty disappointed for what would amount to the game not meeting the expectation they had based on type of game rather than the quality. Looking at the vids, this is gonna be a high quality action/RPG. I know I'm looking forward to it a great deal. But that's because I like action/RPGs and don't expect this to be an action/adventure, although some comments when it was announced led me to believe it was. Initially disappointment dissipated, however, and, after seeing the game for what it is (action/RPG), I can see that it looks to be a stellar addition to the platform.
"look" being the important word there Anyway...back on topic: I'd kill to see something along the lines of Skies of Arcadia, Breath of Fire, or (*crosses fingers) Phantasy Star. Even Phantasy Star Online for that matter. Especially the card based one that was on Gamecube. That'd fill a much needed niche.
Zelda IS a RPG. Well really it's an action/RPG. There is no simple, clear line here. You can't just put every game catergory into a little box. The term 'Role Playing Game' refers to your avatar, his/her attributes and how he/she develops in the game. All the categories blend in nowadays. In the case of Zelda, it's a mix of an adventure with puzzle elements AND a serious amount of RPG goodness. The RPG elements of Zelda are fairly obvious, examples include Link changing and the fighting is purely turn-based. If you think about it, Zelda is just a glorified Chrono Trigger in 3D. I admit there is a lot of running around and solving puzzles (Anyone else still terrified of that third dungeon in Majora's Mask?), but at its core, it is a RPG. Most people don't really think about where FPS' originated, and they really evolved from RPG's. An RPG doesn't have to be a top-down, 16 bit game. Don't fight me on this, I know what I'm talking about.
I saw that, but that icon is so overused at the end of seemingly serious rants any more that it's hard saying. In all fairness, though, you don't always end this rant with that symbol So basically this is never going to stop This is where the "fun" comes in, and why I try to discourage people from discussing genre, even in jest. To me, if you take out NPC interaction, a game with puzzles is just that - a puzzle game (ala Myst - might as well start as many wars as I can ) If you take out the story then I'm not really sure what you have. I've always considered an adventure game something akin to an interactive novel where the puzzles help you reveal the story. So from my perspective, there's really nothing that qualifies Zelda as an adventure game. Maybe action / puzzle? Well, I'd poke fun of myself here too, but I'm right
Why would you need precision for basic finger movements. Slash up, slash down, tap........ All of these functions already work just fine of the iphone.
And as far as I understand it, Zenonia has _no_ puzzle elements and combat mechanic is very different from Zelda, too. I fail to see how there are any similarities except for the art style. IMHO, the comparison is just misleading.
axcyually how exactly is combat different have you found this out in your many hours playing the game
Any news on when Zenonia will be released? I think back in April it was hinted it will be released early May.
Well, I certainly wouldn't count on it in early May Seriously, though, except for the possibility of one or two of the more "insider" beta testers, we're in the dark as much as you are. We've only received one beta so far, which was a few weeks ago, but it certainly wasn't ready for prime time (in terms of translation and such, not gameplay). I'd say end of May at earliest, but then there might be a build that's ready to go that we just don't know about yet.
Have you people F*cking played it? Hmm, have you? Well inferi and I have, it plays just like zelda, so why dont you go and shut the F*ck up about stuff you know nothing about? And to spiffyone, who gives a shit what you call it? it IS an action game with RPG elements. Who cares if he said "adventure/action" instead of action adventure? If you really get that anal about things, you need to go see a serious therapist..
I see people blaming Hodapp judging things he doesn't know about... All those people are welcome to read the peoples comments in this thread and go nuts.
Sorry I do have an bad sense of sarcasm(and btw I'd never link beta or do cracked apps to do either of those us just morally wrong-no sarcasm)
its not even possible to do that with a beta. Thats what the UDIDs are for. Im sure theres some way to hack it though, but nobody cares enough to try.
