I've been waiting 10 years for this, I'm really hoping that we're gonna grow out of the "two thousand and ..." phase, it always sounded so awkward to me, like people trying to hard to make it sound futuristic. Of course, "twenty hundred" or "twenty oh one", etc, is also very awkward, but I'm looking forward to getting back on the 2 number system we used back in the 90s (the "good ol' days"). Then again, it really doesn't matter. If anything annoys me more than saying "two thousand" every time someone asked me what year it was, it's when people say that there is only ONE way to say something, and everything else is wrong, because that's not how language works.
It's a song..... Michael & Janet Jackson? Scream? Ever heard of it? The futuristic music video? Really? No? EDIT: WOOT! 500th POST!
Seriously, how do you people believe in 2012? Cuz there was a movie? Im pretty sure nothing happend in 2000 and look at all the hype there was about that. To answer your question, I say it both ways so it doesnt matter.
It is the distant future year twenty ten, humanity carries the sum of it's knowledge in it's hand while robots vacuum their carpets. It's two thousand and ten, it's much harder to get on an airplane then it was 20 years ago and reality TV is extremely popular. Meanwhile in the alternate year twenty aught nine the stragglers are busy strapping on their gryopacks for the big christmas day mustache festival.
