Well, the iPad will eventually get multitasking (iOS4 for iPad coming in the Fall of 2010) so that shouldn't alter your decision. The real thing that you should consider is portability. If you're looking for a device that you can throw into your pocket, then the iPad is obviously not for you. But if you don't mind carrying it or you don't need a device as portable as the iPod Touch, then go for the iPad. But before making your decision, I recommend waiting around a month to see the new iPod Touch that Apple will be releasing. Also, there is a rumor that Apple will be releasing a 7-inch iPad, so maybe you'll like that as well.

It's weird how so many people understood or seem quote the multitasking as an hardware problem.

The ipad main quality for gaming is more comfort for eyes and hands with the large screen. Also one of its quality was allows play all games but it's true anyway since ios4 release and plenty developers lazy enough to not care support something else than ios4. And when ios4 will be available for iPad next generation of iPad will be closed to be released.

Also if many iphone games play better on iPad doubled it's not true for all, particularly those mixing touch anywhere on screen plus tilting. Also there isn't that many game for iPad only of with an iPad version really different and better than iphone version. A list would be interesting.

As chris highlighted buy an ipod now makes no sense when new generation is so close to be released, for sure you'll regret this buy, iPad second generation is coming but not that close. So either buy an iPad now if portability isn't a major point for you, either wait next gen of iPod to see and then probably buy one if you eyes and hands can use such tiny devices for gaming.

I say... wait to see specs of iPod Touch 4 next month, then if you like what you see, get it. If not, wait 'til xmas for the iPad mini.

(It seems silly; "Let's make a massive iPod Touch called the 'iPad'. Then let's make a mini iPad!")

ipad mini may be a hit. more so than the ipad... should just call it a touch tho.. 7" touch.. my guess it will cost 200.00 more than the ipod cause it is called a ipad. heh
