When I was originally getting into music it was only metal and punk rock. Now more than a decade out of high school, I've since adapted my taste to other genres. I can listen to anything from Lamb of God or Anthrax to The Postal Service, Cursive or even Jimmy Eat World. I just can't stand hollow pop music or country western. I played the drums, mostly metal for years. I guess since I come from a musician perspective, I listen to music more for the melody and beat behind it and less so for whatever the singer is saying. If the lyrics are good, it's a bonus. With rap, I've learned to appreciate the melody, the flow, and delivery regardless of how ridiculous the lyrics may be. I've even learned to laugh at them and I think that's just fine. Music doesn't have to be taken too seriously, even rap - maybe even especially rap. So when you hear lyrics about money and strippers, just laugh and laugh at the people who take it too seriously. Currently listening to Social Distortion - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell
