Hi everyone! Wuhu! This is my first post. Have been coming here fequently but never felt i had anything to offer in the conversations. But now that I am developing a game i thought perhaps i could ask all you guys for some advice. When you email review websites what kind of material do you include? I was thinking of including the following: - synopsis of game - promo video - description of creators/company - stills from game - company logo Is there anything you think i am missing? Anyway thanks for being an awesome community
- Developer contact details (possibally in the company description section). Including at the very least your e-mail, and ideally also phone. - The games Icon in both 512px and 57px size.
@ AssyriaGameStudio thanks for the input. In your oppinion how many review websites do you try to get reviews from or is it just the more the better?
Hey Faktamorten. You can see our latest press kit for our recent release, Zen Puzzle Garden, here. We've included screens, concept art, logos, information, a video, and the title's catchphrase, “Rake your way towards enlightenment”. I think it's important to convey the feel of the game, as well as facts and selling points. The images tend to do this best, but the written material is really important too.
I would add that the game description should either be an actual press release, or written in press release style. This means that you write the most important things first and in brief, and then build upon them in the remaining paragraphs. This allows media members to control how much of the text they want to take directly, as sometimes they just copy and paste your description directly, with a bit of their own spice here and there. Giving them an easy way to do so makes their job easier and makes it more likely that your app will get mentioned. You can read a ton of additional information on how to better present your company and your app at prmac.com: http://prmac.com/member/press_releases_deconstructed
@PikPok - Thank you for a nice example of a presskit. I will keep it in mind when we launch our game. Furthermore i have to compliment you on your artwork and game design. It look awesome. Did you hire inhouse programmers or freelancers? @MindJuice - Thank you for the insight of making press releases. It was a very interesting read.
Re review numbers - I normally always contact the reviews I have a good relationship with/ that are mates, as they can usually be relied upon. Beyond that I always send out a press release via Indie Developer Consulting, and normally get a few reviews out of that . - Adam G
Thanks! We have a really talented in-house team who do everything, including usability and QA testing Edit: By the way, we don't have a lot of codes to give out just at the moment, but we are doing a Twitter giveaway right now, if you'd like a shot at getting one of them.
