I pretty much listen to almost any form of rock. I can stand most stuff other than rap, hip-hop, or country, but I usually listen to hard rock/metal with some classic rock thrown in there. My top bands: 1.) Underoath 2.) Killswitch Engage 3.) Avenged Sevenfold 4.) August Burns Red 5.) All That Remains I've been listening to a few other bands here and there but that's mostly it. (Sorry about the second post, just realized that it looks like 2 threads got combined, one of which I posted in)

way to go MJ and hell yeah to godspeed you black emperor. their live shows were so amazing....i want them to come back. arguably the best band of all time. anybody else here get to see them live? do make say think are still making their rounds, but it's not even close to being the same experience. that said, i listen to everything, but i'm more of a noise head than anything else.
I'd have to agree their older songs are much better. Anyone heard of the toadies, really digging their song "tyler".
i listen to most types rock (not metal), jazz, blues, and the powerful classical pieces; but the genres i just can't stand are pop, hip-hop, rap, and country.
I always liked these kinds of threads because you can really notice what kinds of people there are using whatever the forum is dedicated to. For example, a forum for, oh, WoW or something (just for example), where the majority of the users seem to have the same general crappy taste (crappy is my opinion here, though I stand firmly by it). To somewhat rant about it, a lot of these threads though really remind me of a hilarious Onion article I once read about this kid saying how he can listen to all kinds of metal. Black metal, death metal, thrash metal, power metal, etc etc. But he can't stand rap metal. Or here, I was surprised to see a relatively diverse range of music, but I guess that isn't surprising given it's a site dedicated to features of the iPod/Phone line. I myself like a variety of music. But as I've gotten older and been introduced to more stuff, it has become increasingly difficult to say exactly what it is I like. I mean, if I say I like rock music, well, does that mean I like the a band like Alice in Chains, or someone like David Bowie? Or Blink 182? And even then, someone like David Bowie who has such a varied range of musical influence, from folk rock, to "plastic soul" (whatever that is), to industrial, etc. Neil Young is another favorite that is hard to define. His album "Comes a Time" is flat out country and folk, but he's also unofficially known as the "Godfather of Grunge" for some of his other works. Rap/Hip Hop on the other hand, much easier to describe, haha. When I was younger, I liked stuff like DMX and Jay-Z, but as I got older, and their albums started to suck, hard, I started listening to stuff like Wu-Tang, Aesop Rock, Dr. Octagon, Del (and Deltron), lately some Pharoahe Monch. I suppose that's somewhat indie hip hop, but I don't think I'm pretentious enough on that front to call the likes of Wu-Tang "indie". That's not to say some of the more mainstream rappers are bad: NWA (as well as Dr. Dre and Ice Cube), Biggie, Snoop, basically that 90s east coast/west coast stuff ain't bad. I saw some people here mention Godspeed! I also like that bastard offspring of theirs A Silver Mt. Zion/Thee Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra, whatever they're called. Haunting stuff. And not to be a dork, but I've found soundtracks to video games like Final Fantasy are really good for studying or playing other games (games with bad music for example). Basically, my philosophy is to try and be open. It makes me sad when I see the inspiration for the above mentioned Onion article talk about how much they love Black Metal and only listen to Dimmu Borgir, etc. It also makes me sad all these young kids (I'm only in college and I'm calling them young kids, that in itself is sad) who think T-Pain and Flo Rida are the cream of the crop when it comes to music. There's so much stuff out there to be found and discovered, might as well try and find it! Of course, too much music, then you become an elitist jerk. It's a tough balance I suppose. On that note, about the only music I abhor is that "ringtone" club music, like the above mentioned T-Pain and Flo Rida.
I listen to most everything, maybe everything short of really hard rock. Other than that, I don't really limit myself by genre as I'm basically a music addict. My iTunes library now has over 21,000 songs. My favorite styles of music are probably jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, and 'electronic' genres. Also pretty obsessed with 80s/90s Brit pop atm. Love eastern classical music as well - especially South Indian. I hate when people say thay 'hate [genre] music'. It's almost always an opinion founded in total ignorance. There is so much talent and music out there. I tend to not be very interested in most top-40 American pop/club rap type stuff. It's generally just shallow hooks that bore after a few listens.
I only listen to classical music, mostly piano pieces by Chopin and Liszt, as well as C/K/J/T-pop. I can't stand the loud noises like metal or stuff without meaningful lyrics, like rap.
>rap metal wtf, there's nu-metal and metal core (different genres), but I've never heard of rap metal. I suppose the closest would be nu-metal (ie. Linkin Park, Fort Minor, etc.), and I agree. That genre of music is horrible to me.
then expand your musical horizons. i too occasionally enjoy chopin, but i can listen to just about ANYTHING
