skate-punk, Metal, and Classic Rock are my favorites. But I like lots of other stuff too. there's a link to some of my own music in my signature.
ska punk, skate punk, crust punk, some heavy and alternative metal, old school hip hop, the list goes on.....
90's hip hop (Q-tip, A Tribe Called Quest, etc) and rap. No, not Drake best I ever had crap but real rap. Illmatic by Nas, eminem, jay z
Yeah I was going to list some bands and then I thought "shit I'll be here all day" so let me sum it up. I'm not to impressed with anything being released these days, and honestly have spent the last 4 years going backwards in the world of music. It seems that something happened around the turn of the millennium, I'm not sure what, but nothing has really struck me. There are exceptions, but over all, if it's on the radio, I probably don't like it. I'm looking at you nickelback you ****ing lame posers.
Man...you and I have found quite a bit in common these past few topics. First our like of all things Team ICO, and now this. I can tell you one of the things that happened to music, particularly on radio: Conglomerates owning the stations. Clear Channel, Disney, Time Warner, etc. Sad because the future of radio as a medium is local radio, really, but there are so very few local only stations and virtually none focusing on music. Everything is chart based, national, and when you have that you end up with watered down bull**** propagating the airwaves. TV has also had something of a decline. And by that I mean broadcast TV. Reality shows and prime time game shows are killing off high quality scripted fiction shows on the broadcast networks. The only respite are a few of the basic cable nets (FX, USA, Bravo, AMC), and even those too, I feel, will one day go to the dark side. Wanna know how bad it's getting? Cartoon Network is showing live action reality shows. Cartoon Network! WTF?!
Hahaha, yeah I guess we have I couldn't agree more in regards to media broadcasting in general. Music television is anything but, TLC/Discovery/History often uses subjective pseudo science in their more sensational programs, and as you said Cartoon network is host to live action reality shows. You gotta pay big bucks if you want decent programing (HBO, Showtime etc) Which is why, I no longer watch TV.....at all. I don't have cable and haven't had it in over 4 years. If I really like a show, I'll buy the season on dvd. In regards to music, I find myself, constantly rolling my eyes, and gritting my teeth. If I hear "I want to be a rockstar" one more time, I'm going to bludgeon myself to death. Seriously!? I can't believe that there are individuals who look up to these people, and are actually taking their shallow self serving philosophies to heart. It's ridiculous.
The doors, Zeppelin, Hendrix, J. Cash, Aphex twin, Venetian Snares, Keane, MGMT, Nirvanna, STP, Smashing pumpkins etc...
audioslave soundgarden I like switchfoot stopped listening to rammstein. haven't been in the mood for heavy german industrial/metal
hahaha me and you think the same i hate mainstream, especially that so called "rap" you hear these days....
Have listened to a lot of chip tunes since I got SID Player on my iPod Touch. Then again I grew up composing music on my C64, so that might influence that some. As far as 'real' music is concerned, I've recently been listening to The Beatles, Iron Maiden and Rush.
A bit of variety: Trance: Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Shakta, Stoneface & Terminal, Antiloop, The Grid, and dozens of others Prog dance: Mostly just Sunscreem in that category, Utah Saints (could be dance, could be offbeat/other if you count the album Two) Techno: 808 State primarily, except maybe Outpost Transmission, which is where Graham and Darren just got too damn weird. 80s/90s synthpop: Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Information Society, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Howard Jones, New Order, OMD, Thomas Dolby, etc. Slightly offbeat electronica: The Art of Noise (before Lol Creme destroyed them), Yello New Agey electronica: Jean-michel Jarre, Kraftwerk Industrial: Nine Inch Nails, Front Line Assembly, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Rob Zombie (debatable, but I'd classify his solo stuff as industrial), early Ministry, Skinny Puppy (mostly just the Vivisect VI album) Rock: Pink Floyd, Def Leppard ('til all their stuff started sounding the same right around Adrenalize; they pretty much ran out of steam after Hysteria), Twisted Sister (don't laugh, they were a lame but fun hair band that kind of defined the first half of the 80s), Genesis, Rush (greatest Canadian band ever), Rock & Hyde.
