Sister gave me a few CDs to rip onto my computer. One of them were Five Finger Death Punch. And man o' man, they are amazing.

Hell yeah dude! Deadwing is one of my favourite rock albums man. Goofy ass lyrics but awesome sound. They have done shows with one of my favourite bands of all time, Opeth.

Somewhat a fan here. I loved Fear of a Blank Planet, Up the Downstair and The Sky Moves Sideways.

They seem a bit...generic to me. They have the vocals of a thousand bands before them and repetitive guitar riffs. Sort of like Godsmack.

Agreed. I am not a fan of 5FDP. When they first came out I thought they were allright for, what I call a KUPD band (a local radio station here in AZ that plays nothing but crap generic "rock" and "metal") but they continuously prove that they are... bleh.

But I am not to judge. I just think they are meh.

Edit: Anyone here listen to Blinded Colony? I just downloaded "Bedtime Prayers" and they are pretty damn rad. Decent melo death band.

What would you say are your top 5 melodic metal bands? I need something new to listen to, seeing as for some reason I can't stop listening to The Walking Dead by Zebrahead.

Top 5 melo death bands? Ouch that's a tough one considering it's my favourite genre ;)

    In Flames
    At The Gates
    Dark Tranquility
    Opeth
    Zonaria

    Album Suggestions

In Flames - The Jester Race, Whoracle
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul, Terminal Spirit Disease
    Dark Tranquility - The Mind's I, Character
Opeth - Blackwater Park, Still Life
Zonaria - Infamy and the Breed

Edit: If you ever need more passed those I have a lot. And those are just from Sweden. Also try "Deliver Us" by Darkest Hour. They are a little more hardcore than melo death but they still have some melo death roots. And that's one of my favourite albums of all time.

Sick suggestions. I've heard 3 of the 5 you suggested (In Flames which I like a lot, At the Gates, and Opeth), and all sound great. I'll check out Dark Tranquility and Zonaria right now.

Yeah definitely check them out. The singer for In Flames actually did vocals on the very first Dark Tranq CD. Old shit there. lol

    Also try:

    Skyfire - Spectral, Mind Revolution
Scar Symmetry - Symmetric in Design
    Blinded Colony - Bedtime Prayers
Amon Amarth - The Avenger, Twighlight of the Thunder God

Very good melo death bands as well.

Y'know, I actually didn't like Amon Amarth too much. I don't know, just not a fan of them too much. I enjoy Ensiferum much more. Same style of music almost, but I just feel like Ensiferum is overall better. It's hard to explain, but I definitely enjoy them more.

And thanks for the recommendations. I just checked out some Dark Tranquility, and it sounds pretty awesome so far.

Hmm never heard of Ensiferum, a new band the check out! Suuhhhweeett!

Yeah Amon Amarth isn't the best band out there, and not really that technical either. I just like a lot of the guitar harmonies and such. I'm going to check out Ensiferum though.

Yeah Dark Tranq is awesome. Saw em live, they put on one f*ck of a good show.

Edit: Just checked out a couple songs from Ensiferum. They sound like a folkier Children of Bodom and Wintersun. I love it! Finnish thrash and folk metal owns.

I know! I love folk metal, and as far as I've heard, Ensiferum is the best. What songs did you check out? I have a couple that just blew my mind.

I listened to the first couple tracks from their self-titled album, then just downloaded the whole thing. Going to get their whole discography. I really like them. Have you ever heard of Wintersun? It's just amazingly one guy who does all the stuff and it is great. Worth checking out his Self-Titled album as well.

Yeah I have a hard time considering them such, but they do have some melo death roots as well. I am bad in general with genre names though. *shrugs* I guess if anything they are more Progressive Metal. But when I think of Prog metal I think of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian. lol it's all crazy.

Wintersun is one dude?! Wow... I heard a song from him a while back, and it was pretty sick.

And make sure you listen to both Battle Song and From Afar by Ensiferum. Those 2 were in my opinion their best songs (that I've heard).
