Just wanted to write a quick note on the book. Quite easy and quick read. Only 200 some odd pages and half of them are illustrations so only about 100 pages of text. Certainly a different perspective on the fun in games among other things. Overall, it's worth a read. I also want to point out this blog: Only a Game. The article on Agon in particular is pretty interesting. I based one of my games on this one point:
The beauty of making video games is that they *are* an art form. So, like art, almost any element (when presented properly) can result in a great game. That said, games are usually "defined" by their graphics, soundtrack, genre (and level of diversity) and polish (which can be anything from control scheme to dialogue accuracy). Remember, a game that masters these elements is just as noteworthy and unusual as any genre-defying indie title. -Ben
