Alright so I upgraded my 4th Gen iPod to iOS 5. I must admit I love the new features and I'm glad to see the damn blue notification messages that disrupt games and movies a thing of the past. Honestly I love all the new features however, after setting everything up I found out that to sync photos with my iMac I need to upgrade to Lion. This has to be one of the dumbest ideas every especially considering iCloud works with both Windows Vista and Windows 7 yet Apple can't even make it compatible with their previous OS.

I'm running Snow Leopard so I guess I won't get to benefit from iCloud unless I upgrade for $30.

I upgraded the other day since it was either in the keynote or the synopsis or something that I read. Lion is a little different than Snow Leopard but after a short bit I am used to it. Well worth the plunge, especially for the iCloud capability.

And the fact that I am losing Mobile Me because of all this didn't hurt push me in that direction either!

you sure you need lion?.. in the mac appstore iphoto 11 (v 9.2) shows it supports iCloud and the requirements for iphoto are osx 10.6.8
but the app itself costs 15$

so if this new version is included in Lion.. 30$ sounds like a bargain..

can't say never used iphoto.. actualy never started it.. just now and i have iPhoto 09 ;D hehe

Yeah I checked online and it says that iCloud is only supported by Lion.

Don't get me wrong I don't have anything against upgrading but you would think Apple would at least support one operating system back. Very disappointing. :(

I read the same but I also read a more recent article that had Apple state Lion would be the only OS to support iCloud. Apparently because it has new technology or features that allow for iCloud. I think all the articles from earlier in the year were just speculation. Although I would love if they were true and if Apple would actually take time to confirm it.

Chances are I will likely be running Lion by the time they make any type of announcement.

saw this on engadet.. free 50gb of cloud space.. for free and its yours forever.. thought id bring it up here in case you cant use the apple version cause you do not have the latest os.. at any rate ill let you look into it.. i do not really care fro cloud services.. MS did this years ago, and i used it for a month then stop using it. but hey at least my data is still there i guess even after all these years.

Well, I have Lion at home so it's not a problem there, but at work my 1st gen MacBook can not even run Lion, so I'm screwed there. Technically it says that iCloud will partially work with older OSs and is unsupported.

Can't you still copy photos over to iPhoto by plugging in? It's just the wireless syncing that doesn't work, right?

I actually really like Lion, by the way. There's a bunch of nice improvements. I think it's worth it. I just wish I could install it at work too.

Hey Crunc. Yeah I can plug I in like I always have been doing but the auto sync was kind of a feature I was looking forward to. Oh well I'll end up upgrading in the next month or two.
