I agree that everyone should know the rules. However I do think that the same should apply to mods. Let me give you an example that I hope you all read. I made a thread asking why I was banned. After a while, a prominent member of the TA community (a mod I think), commented on someone's signature about David Bowie. The next few posts were about Bowie and his new album. Now there's this rule: Now, I call them off. I say, why are you talking about Bowie in a thread that has nothing to do with it? And what does this mod do? They change the title to: Why was I banned and The David Bowie thread. After I notify them about this, they proceed to remove all the relevant David Bowie posts and revert back to the old title. I call a particular mod of being hypocritical since they broke a rule, and then I get banned for "sassing" the mod. I mean, how fair is that? I hope I'm allowed to vent my opinion on this issue. I have no issue with the mods now, just wanting to let everyone know.
I remember that. Generally whatever is in the "Other" sub-forum is a little bit more lax, which is why some things are let go that would be bannable in the main sub-forum.
Well, I think you and Midian are talking about two different things. Midian often talks about a time when there were alot of members using the lounge, some big contraversies arose and alot of the old members left, leaving the lounge dead. When I first came here to the lounge, it was dead, until about 2 months ago. Your beef seems to be more with the current lounge and of dislike for its new members or the latest members on Toucharcade. Those two things are different, or so I thought, so was asking Midian what he meant.
Fair enough. But then what I don't understand was why I was banned? I know i'm bringing up old stuff, but it's good to get answers some times
While your terminology is not that pleasant, it is probably true that more and more children are using ios devices than long ago. Back then, ios devices were too expensive for children to have. So I suppose maybe that compared to a couple of a years back, the current demographic is younger than it used to be. And I suppose probably the more serious hobbyist back 2 years ago may well have been more of a middle aged hobbyist than it is now. I always hear the comments that there are a lot more trolls and children on than there used to be, but it is tough for me to say cause I was a Windows mobile guy until about one and a half years ago, so I don't know. So anyway, seems like your concern is with people's ages, but I am not sure that is what Midian was referring to. But I will leave that up to him to clarify. So since you seem so nostalgic, was Toucharcade that much better in the old days? And how do these older members compare to this new member generation?
Nope. I don't invest any strong feelings into a forum (anymore), this is no exception. Since I don't know the most new members closer, so I neither like nor dislike them. Also, my times of debates and quarrels are over. Things like these are useless. I am just watching and maybe pointing out a few things. My intention was to give a word of warning before it is too late. Some things should just not neccessarily happen. Even if I don't really care about the most here in general. This is tA; and it is business, after all. Reputation is an important factor. That's the thing to respect. And sometimes people forget that they don't have the right to be here. We're all allowed to be here. But if you could care to elaborate why it is so important to have some cool title or celebrity member status, or explain this attention whore behaviour that's running here lately, you would really enlighten me a lot. I have no clue. Today, it seems to important to be someone here. Gaming moved into the background. And MidianGTX and me might point to different things, but that's still all connected. Cause and effect. It's not my terminology, it's what I've heard from 2, maybe 3 other members. That's just how they see some people, I assume. But you're right. The iPhone/iPod user today isn't the one 3-4 years ago. Quite some younger people joined the scene. Back then, only a few could afford a new iPhone, iPhone 2 or iPhone 3. That changed. I can't tell you if tA was better or not, I just have my own opinion. That's not important here. I suggest reading the old Lounge threads from 3-4 years ago. They explain why most elder members prefer the past times, I think. Some say that tA felt more mature a few years ago.
Yes, we know. But I heard that misantrophy can be cured. Nice loophole, tho. Nobody can call you racist when you hate 'em all.
This is really snipey school kid stuff. Little snarly comments about old vs new members and what other's think about different members. Many new members really respect the senior members and try to assimilate as quick as possible. Others don't. It's still a hell of alot better than other forums out there. If some of the wise members of yore are bitter and twisted and don't want to get involved in a few heated discussions over games any more then fair enough. Power to them. But if guys like Connector are going out of their way to build a sense of community (though surely not as good as "back then/3 years ago/Zion") and promote a bit of respect around the place then it would take a toddler mentality to throw barbs at it. Yes he throws titles around with the Chatroom lads but when I first joined he also said how I should take heed of the senior members and repeatedly dropped their names so I knew who to show more respect to. Not necessary but he did it anyway. This isn't alot of our 1st rodeos. You guys were here 1st. Not to gaming-the forum. You guys are awesome and have along with the mods, built, brick by brick, a great little community. There are now a bunch of kids and tossers in here (the latter is myself included). As you said we are "allowed" to be here and so we are. With your involvement we can keep the senior members (the older members)where they should be. At the top. Respected not because they are here for the longest but because they contribute to keeping it awesome. However, this bitchy behavior does nothing for the forum or for the image of those who are claiming their status as "mature". Therefore, the choice is yours. Cut and run, linger unattached or stay and rebuild. Just don't stay and snipe at those who are doing positive things.
This thread doesn't really have a topic anymore and has become another chat thread for the same bunch of lounge dwellers, so let's close it.
