I agree, gameloft raises the bar for iphone gaming. Even their earliest iphone games were great. They really raised the bar with MC:S and Gangstar.

Depends how far into the future we're talking... pixel shaders aren't gonna revolutionize anything so if you're talking several years time then sure, but I'd almost consider that a new platform, or at least an update. I'm mainly talking about what we have currently and in the near future.

I think you're underestimating how much of a power hog intelligent AI processing can be, depending on how advanced it is it can even be competing with stuff like textures for raw processing power. I agree with the rest of the statement though, eye candy is the seller... however I don't consider Gangstar to be a good looking game. I think it's well-made and an accomplishment for the platform, but I'd rather be looking at something prettier.

It's not just pixel-shaders: it's processing speed, RAM, and graphic memory -- all of which are equal to or better than a PSP. The 3Gs is a new platform: it's just that very few people have taken advantage of it yet.

You may be right about me underestimating intelligent AI; it's been a while since I've tried my hand at coding (besides simple ActionScript). On Gangstar -- well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;).

Sorry to burst your bubble but, first of all, the RE4 port is terrible. Second, you'll never see a "GOW" game on iPhone.

X-Plane ... a year ago was all I needed to see to know what the iPhone could do.

I have to say Rolando 2. Reason being is that it is one of the only truly superb games I've played on the iPod. No matter what people say is ground-breaking in terms of graphics or the game engine that runs... The gameplay of Rolando 2 is stunning. It's totally wonderful.

Resident Evil: Degeneration: it may look like an old playstation game, but I can play it for six hours on my ipod touch continiously and the battery still has half left (3.0 with redsnow 0.8 jailbreak)

The controls are pretty good with the slower pacing and the zombies slow movement, and the whole airport eventually becomes open to explore.

I think we're talking about revolutionary games here.

There aren't that many, but the ones that are on this list are really amazing 1st of its kind type games.

Flight Control - Completely made the Line-Draw genre

Rolando Series - Set a new bar on innovation and using the accelerometer and touch controls effectively.

Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor - Outstanding game with very intelligent gameplay.

F.A.S.T. - Online multiplayer, lobbies, balanced gameplay etc. Redefined online multiplayer games.

Draw Race - To me, this game made me rethink what a good game was/is on the app store, and it's ingenuity of using line draws with speed is excellent.

Hero of Sparta - It did revolutionize the app store from being a casual games market into a more "hardcore" market for sure.

Pocket God - Episodic updates, $0.99 price point, Open Feint. 3 things that Pocket God helped introduce and 3 things that have become common place on the app store.
