Doodle Jump is also on android now? I don't want to say Rolando, even the sequel that was over a year ago and I never see it shown in commercials or on the iPods at the apple store. Doodle jump and angry birds are still going Very strong. I'd say doodle jump cuz everybody who's asked me about my phone knows it, doesn't feel like a mascot character though
It was extremely successful, the reason why it didn't continue is because Ngmoco switched away from this platform to micromanagement free DLC titles.
If it was a toss between Doodle Jump and Angry Birds, I'd say Doodle Jump. Why? Because it utilises one of the iPhones key features, the accelerometer. I'm not sure whether any other phone as a good enough accelerometer, but on my friends phone he had to tap on the sides of the screen to move. Angry Birds can be easily replicated on an other touch device, whereas Doodle Jump can't to the full extent.
I believe I read on pocketgamer that while it was successful, sales weren't as high as they'd hoped, due to piracy. This in turn prompted them to change to the whole freemium model, so you're right on some level too. Whatever the case, it's such a that pity we're unlikely to get Rolando 3.
The mascot is an overweight cat with dollar signs for eyes and a hat that says "Social Security" pouring a bucket that says "Alternative Minimum Tax" over a sad Statue of Liberty holding a democracy umbrella.
