I was curious what everyone's favorite RPG's (non iDevice games) on any console, handheld or PC are. For me my favorites are: Phantasy Star II (Genesis) Final Fantasy VII (PSX) Final Fantasy X (PS2) Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360/PC)
Final Fantasy 1, 4, 9, 10 Dragon Warrior 3, 7, 8 Phantasy Star 4 Earthbound Chrono Trigger Ultima: Quest of the Avatar Harvest Moon Dark Cloud 2 .hack series Lunar: Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue
I enjoyed Mass Effect, but to me, Mass Effect 2 is superior in almost every way. In my opinion, Mass Effect is one of many good games I've played, but Mass Effect 2 is one of the few great games I've played.
Did you played Dragon Warrior 1/2? I played those on the GBC way back when and hated them with a passion. Is it worth looking at 3 on the GBC or 4 on the DS even if I hated the first two? You seem like you enjoy that series.
??? I've never heard Bioshock called an RPG before. Although... I suppose the upgrades nudge it in that direction a little. For me it's gotta be (alphabetical order): Borderlands Demon's Souls (debate over whether or not it's an RPG, I'd call it Action RPG personally) Fallout 3 Final Fantasy VI - IX & XIII Skies of Arcadia The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Chrono Trigger Earthbound Star Ocean: Till' the End of Time Kingdom Hearts 1+2 Tales of Symphonia Baten Kaitos 1+2 Mass Effect 1+2 Eternal Sonata FF XIII Persona 4 And I'm probably forgetting a few...
Legend of Sword and Fairy I, III, IV, and V (one of the most moving RPG series ever created) Final Fantasy Tales of Symphonia I Eternal Sonata Ys Most if not all western RPGs are a waste of time with about 90% boring text reading with no new ideas, 9% walking around and 1% actually doing something.
oh heck yeah.. 1 and 2 were pretty simplistic, but 3 is on the level of the original FF and 4 is just awesome. I still like 1 and 2,though, because of the nostalgia
If you can call it an RPG, first would be... Rachet and Clank 2. Tons of leveling, great humor, and a huge amount of replayability. Rhino II FTW! Second, mounster hunter portable 2. Sunk almost 70 hours into it and still haven't beat it.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy X Paper Mario Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (the other 2 were great, but they weren't as good) Lost Odyssey (Yes, I actually enjoyed that game. A lot) Sonny/Sonny 2 Final Fantasy I (on my PSP) EDIT: Oh... just noticed it wasn't just turn-based. I put down Crisis Core because I liked it that much anyway. Well, updated list then: Fallout 3 Sword of Mana Secret of Mana Metal Gear Ac!d 1/2 (there's enough RPG in it to justify it) Dynasty Warriors 4 (I put pretty much an entire summer into that game... the level up system qualifies it I'm sure) Tony Hawk's Underground/American Wasteland (decent story and had leveling up stats by completing challenges... I think that's RPG enough for me )
Top 5: - Final Fantasy VI - Chrono Trigger - Xenosaga Ep. III - FF7 - Crisis Core - Dragon Quest VIII Series's in general: - Final Fantasy - Dragon Quest - Kingdom Hearts - TWEWY - Xenosaga - MetroidVania's - Seiken Densetsu - Ratchet & Clank - Mario RPG - Pokemon - Mega Man.EXE Fail: - Mega Man.EXE 4 - Legend of Dragoon - Kingdom Hearts - 358/2 Days - Mega Man Star Force Series - Heroes of Mana - Final Fantasy X-2 - Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - Xenosaga Ep. II
Well, it's also a shooter, and an RPG. You level up your health, armour, and weapons a ton. I was saying it might be considered an RPG because of the amount of leveling up in it.
You are now awesome. I couldn't agree more on those... X-2 was such a letdown. They removed the story that I loved in the first one, made it a mission-based game, and made it unbearably girly. It was awful.
