So, I know a lot of people here at Touch Arcade and love to visit for some really good App Reviews. This is one of my favorite places to find good App Reviews and see what is happening in the iPhone/iPod Touch gaming world. But, we can't all just go to this site for App Reviews can we? What are your other favorite and most disliked sites? Here are mine: TapCritic I never have been a big fan of Video App Reviews due to the fact that most of them were so unprofessional or they were just lacking what the whole entire game included. This all changed when I was referred by one of my website pals over to this new place called TapCritic. I first looked at it and almost immediately though that this site was going to suck. The written reviews were not in-depth at all, until I took a peak at the Video Reviews. Mr. Pence does a great job and is very professional when it comes to explaining the wohle game. His videos are very in depth and shows every bit of what the game includes. Slide To Play There are two main reasons why I love Slide To Play, they give you great in-depth App Reviews and they have an app for their site so I do not need to go onto their website every day to see if there are any new App Reviews. What is also very cool about Slide To Play is the fact that they get so many previews of really good games. Take for example, N.O.V.A. They got a lot of hands on time with it before any other major website did, they even included 3 videos that were each about 10 minutes long. Websites that I do not like AppVee There are many people that love AppVee if they want simple Video Reviews of apps. Unfortunately, these short little clips are just not my cup of tea as far as App Review go. For me, it seems that they try to cram every little detail into a 2-3 minute video, but the again, it is just my personal opinion. What are your opinions?
I really like appvee. They give good, concise reviews in a 2-minute video. Slide to Play?? Those guys seem to do their "research" by spending most of their time on the TA forums. They just summarize what they read here--no thinking required!
I'm not a big-enough gamer on the iPod to go onto other sites. Even for the 360, I'll go to IGN and Amazon, and that's about it. If I want a $3 game, I'm willing to risk going into massive debt and losing my home and family to play it
I like toucharcade for the obvious reasons. Pocketgamer- they have pretty good reviews, update site often, and report on iphone news insteAd of only reveiwing. Slide to play- good reviews, good rating system, update fairly frequently NoPad- they have good reviews but the dont update site very often, reviews ofen out weeks after the game has been released. Theappera-dont update enough, average reviews. Appcarver- they require delovpers to pay if they want thier app reviewed. Toucharcade is my fav.
I like: Toucharcade - I don't even need to give reasons. I think you know. Touchaholics - I review for hat website. Obviously, it has the greatest reviews ever. SlidetoPlay - Great, in-depth reviews. I actually sort of picked up some of my reviewing style from there. Plus, it has a really professional feel, which I like a lot. NoDpad - Again, great, in-depth reviews. Plus, the pros/cons list is really helpful. Tapcritic - What ever happened to Mr. Pence? His reviews were awesome... I can't really think of any I don't like that much. Not a huge fan of AppSpy because of the way the guy ends EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE in his reviews like he's asking a question. Other than that, I really just don't care much for it.
I like Pocketgamer and Slidetoplay because they write great reviews and I just feel like I can trust them. Also because they have a number scale and pros/cons on STP and I can see at a glance whether the game is worth it if I don't want to read the whole thing cuz I'm lazy. The first review site I ever went to was iphoneappreviews. They aren't as in depth as other site's, but the reviews are really fun to read and I like it. I actually read their stuff more than I do any other site. I never read front page articles on toucharcade, just whatever is said on the forums. I don't like theappera because the site looks terrible. Reviews are ok I guess but I stay away from the site because it's awful color scheme makes me eyes hurt.
I have a couple I visit regularly Touch Arcade-obviously an awesome site with great reviews and news iPhone APPetiser-Well it's my site so I have to like it Updated daily with all the latest content Pocket Gamer-Not a bad site for news, but it's also mixed in with other consoles 148 Apps-Not updated very regularly, but I just seem to like it Slide to Play-Great site with lots of content
Slide To Play? This is by far the worst app reviewing site! The forums are boring and their reviews are way too subjective and randomized. I know, there will never be true objectivity, there is always a bit of subjectivity in everything, but STP mostly relies only on subjectivity. And also, people, who rate Sword of Fargoal with 3 out of 4 http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/sword-of-fargoal-review and Monster RPG 2 out of 4 (Caution!) http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/monster-rpg-2-review can't be taken serious. Instead, games like Hybrid: Eternal Whisper get 4 out of 4? http://www.slidetoplay.com/game/hybrid-eternal-whisper No way. I think, if the game dosesn't make *boom*, *bang* and *crash* like N.O.V.A., it can't expect a high score. My guess. And the comment by gekkota is true, I thought like him before. Some reviews seems to be patched together by quotes from Touch Arcade members or from other sites, because the reviewer did not know exactly what to write. I stopped to read at STP, the reviews are flimsy and unreliable with a very clumsy style of writing sometimes. That's not good if English isn't your native language (like in my case). STP is a wannabe review site and they'll never reach the quality of Touch Arcade reviews. If I would take those reviews from STP as good, I'd surely missed quite a lot of good games. I rely on the reviews on TAs front page - and even more I am trusting the opinions of the other Touch Arcade forum members.
Almost never seen eye to eye with STP reviews. Definitely in the 'disliked' cat, or should I say 'not trusted'. It's mainly here, with some browsing on No DPad, AppSmile and iPhone Games Network. Oh and CreativeApplications. Started visiting Indie Appolis recently too for indie dev interviews.
Hmm... I like: - TA: obvious - No DPad: Fun to read, good review. Updates a bit rarely though. - touch Aholics: Pretty good reviews, updates fairly often. Neutral: -PocketGamer: Not the greatest, yet in-depth reviews, updates often. - more smaller review sites I dislike: - Slide To Play: Pretty much incompetent reviewers writing crappy reviews. Updates often though. - IGN: They just shouldn't review games for this platform.
I like pocketgamer because they talk about iphone new, rumors, and much more. They have average reviews but they arnt bad. IGN sucks becouse the dont take idevices seurisly. Their still oblivios to the fact that there are a lot of major titles of the iphone. Not just little 5 minutes apps. Gamespot is the same way. Plus they are terrible with reviews.
