I am currently playing zombie infection... seems like most of gamelofts shooters, but hopefully the survival mode will be fun...
Broken Sword (iPhone) - really good storyline and quality Resident Evil 4 (Wii) - around 15th playthrough after not playing for a year Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Wii) - recently finished, one of the best storylines ever seen but mediocre gameplay and horror elements Fatal Frame IV Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (Wii) - very hard, still stuck =/
Up to Chapter 10 and loving it. Don't want it to end... top notch production! Have you played/beat it?
Zombie infection (iPad) Gears of War 2 (360) - best game this console generation Uncharted 2 (PS3) - trying to see why people like the multiplayer - so far it's been nothing but a generic boring experience
Seems like you're in to horror games quite a bit... Any good recommendations? I havn't played any new ones in a while since my friend let me borrow the Resident Evil Remake (which is pretty creepy). Any way to get Fatal Frame IV in America? I heard something about it being Japan only.
Cross Fingers (a few levels left) Graveyard Shift (just started) Doom RPG (about half-way done with the Marine)
Silent Hill and Fatal Frame are the only two horror games I've played for the last year or so. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (PC), based on various novels by Lovecraft, is an extremely challenging stealth/horror/adventure game, also one of the original creators of the "FPS with no onscreen HUD" type game, giving it a really realistic feel (as opposed to cluttered with numbers and icons). Health is displayed as a heartbeat and when you are damaged lots of things can happen, such as blurred vision (when head injured), crippled movement (when leg injured), less accurate aiming (when arm injured), hallucinations (when exposed to horror elements), etc. If you don't mind little action (you don't get a weapon until chapter 3, or at least 2-3 hours into the game), lots of stealth, lots of walking around, then this is highly recommended. Silent Hill Shattered Memories, a spin-off, has a very good story (interesting for you to read every line of dialogue and not skip anything), however the game has no action whatsoever (for a realistic feel), it's entirely walking around, solving puzzles, and "chases" where you need a good sense of direction to escape a labyrinth being chased by nightmare creatures. As for the horror element this game is a complete joke compared to any other Silent Hill games. I only "ah-ed" like once in the entire game when a TV turned on by itself with a loud static noise while my character was walking by it. Everything else is pretty psychological, such as faint silhouettes of ghosts, weird noises in the background, a shadow walking by your character, etc, but definitely not scary enough to get you to cry out anything. Good for one playthrough, but the ridiculous amount of walking isn't good for a second run. Fatal Frame IV is really scary and lives up to the series' name. It's your traditional grudge-type ghosts with pale grungy faces and wispy black hair that stares at you. Currently there's no English version, a fan-made translation via Wii's homebrew channel has been started but I'm unsure of its finish date. After it's finished you still need to buy the Japanese version disc I think, and homebrew will edit its files into English or something. You can get the disc pretty much anywhere online, or if you don't want the hassle, simply download it as Wii games are all .iso format. I don't have a PS3, Xbox360, or a good gaming PC, so I can't play any of the new action-horror games. Less and less psychological horror games are coming out since the market has more demand for action games these days... unfortunately.
Yeah... getting a bit sick of the demand for action games a bit myself. I enjoy them as much as the next guy, but I miss when Resident Evil was actually a horror game, and not a mutant-shooting action game. That said, thanks for the list. I really want to get around to playing a Fatal Frame game one day (saw one in Gamestop once but didn't have the money), so if there's any way for me to get a copy of IV, I wouldn't mind using the patch. And I'm glad you mentioned Silent Hill... I just remembered those games now. I sadly havn't played any of them other than the original PSX game, which I might pick up on PSP sometime so I can finally make some progress in it. Also, don't worry about missing out on modern console horror games. There's only 6 I can think of off the top of my head, and most aren't even that scary or worth playing. I have yet to play Alan Wake, which is supposedly really good (although I'm dying to), Siren: Blood Curse which looks insane as well (PS3 exclusive ), or Dead Space. I have played the first Condemned, which is a good game but overall wasn't scary at all, even playing in the dark at night. I heard that the new Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark are rather mediocre, if not crappy. There's plenty of better ones on older consoles, like the original Alone in the Dark games, Clock Tower: The First Encounter, and System Shock 2.
You just mentioned a few of my favorites - don't leave out the original System Shock and Echo Night (by the same guys as Clock Tower...) One of those great moments in gaming, I was playing Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet and nearly went crazy knowing that I had read about something I came across in the game before, but didn't know where. Ends up one of the short stories in Alone in the Dark was the source - took me a while to figure that out. I'm assuming you've played Prisoner 84, if not - you should!
I did a search and found the newest Cthulhu game, Trail of Cthulhu. Youtube showed up no results though.
Hmm... never heard of Echo Night... that's something to check out. I also played a bit of the original System Shock, but the second one is easier to play and control. I also want to play Shadow of the Comet REALLY badly, but I can't find a manual or walkthrough for it ANYWHERE, and seeing as there's no in game tutorial or obvious controls, I basically can't play it, which is a shame. And Prisoner 84 is by far one of the best iPhone games out there, far surpassing the Resident Evil games, Silent Hill for iPhone, and many more. @BazookaTime: This isn't the first time that a Japanese company has stupidly decided to make a game in a series that's rather well-known in America out of America. Take a look at Square Enix: They had quite a few that they never brought to America, most notably Front Mission 5 (which kills me since FM4 is one of my all time favorite TBS games). Nintendo has done this with other games as well, like Mother 1 (aka EarthBound 0) and Mother 3, both which have luckily been fan translated.
If I come across the manuals I'll shoot you a copy. The game was very difficult. Sad thing is I have the box for this game on my bookshelf, but it's filled with other things, and the game manual is with the rest of my old PC game manuals somewhere in a box in the garage... Speaking of sequels coming to America - Echo Night is unfortunately another one of those. If you go hunting for it, go play the original one for the Playstation, not the space one for the PS2...
Thanks! I'm just wondering what keys do what... It's been killing me for a while now. I can get a line of sight to appear and hit some objects at times, but that's about all I can do. I'm basically stuck walking around the hotel room mashing every button on my keyboard, and still no results.
SRD, I saw that you are playing Final Fantasy IV for the DS! I am too; I've had it for a while, but I'm just now getting into it. I'm also playing HeartGold, Contact and The Dark Spire all for the DS.
