I've started a new folder of "Classics" in my games, and I'm trying to compile a list of games that are original platform-defining, classic iOS games. I'm talking games that are "retro" in the platform's short lifespan but still hold up as solid games. So far my list is short, but I know there are more. What am I missing? Angry Birds Fruit Ninja Canabalt Doodle Jump Cut the Rope Temple Run Drop 7
I think these created their subgenres in mobile: Temple Run, Canabalt, Tiny Wings, Infinity Blade, Tilt To Live, Battleheart, Angry Birds, Anomaly, Cut the Rope... Maybe Bike Baron too? And maybe Threes. Edge? The Room may count... I think. Was Super Hexagon originally on mobile?
Sorry i focused too much on the genre-defining part, and forgot about being staples that stood the test of time. I think these fit the descriiption. Duet Impossible Road Mines of Mars Swordigo Spider Goblin Sword Solomon (both Keep and Boneyard) Slayin
To add to EP's list: Minigore 2 (1 is dead) Burrito Bison Plants vs Zombies 2 Hoggy Bloons Death Worm Trenches 2 Zombie Gunship Zombie Tsunami Slayin Banana Kong Helsing's Fire Cannot think of a good platformer or bullet hell, I guess Infinity Gene but it's dead. I checked all these, all good.
They need to be fed Zombie Highway? Any of donut games.(rat on a skateboard) Flick kick football (for uk at least) Star dunk Run like Hell Flying Hamster New Star Soccer (soccer regions) Paper Monsters Soosiz Chop chop series if they are on there Spike Dislike (We could maybe include a year on these)
I'll throw in Sorcery!, as I think Inkle set a new standard there. Chaos Rings ought to be in there, but it's been gone for some time. I can still download it from my history, though. Rolando is also still in my history. Loads of Simogo's games could be in there, too: Year Walk, Device6, maybe even Beat Sneak Bandit. 868-HACK should definitely get a place, although you could pick almost any of Michael Brough's games, TBH. Muffin Knight was so great.
I was thinking Rolando but couldn't see on store. Minisquadron Snailbob Vector Mikey Series (Pizza boy) (I must Run!) (Stylish Sprint) (Fastar) - likely not on store anymore I got some old names listed here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=301843
And some even older ones here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=281358 Parachute Ninja was such a classic, but company got taken over and it was never continued. Little Acorns The Incident Reckless Racing Storm in a teacup Tilt to live Edge Archibald Babylonian twins Paper Toss Monster Dash SMB2 (Super Monkey Ball is it?) Royal Revolt Osmos - (not my cup of tea but it's notable) Great Little or Big War Game probably has to go down as a classic. Soloman's keep (Qwak) (I would count Rinth Island/This must hurt/Totem Runners)
one game is going to really annoy me now- it was one where you had to tilt, and the game was very good quality and had a sequel as well. (5-10 years old)
I'd add the Cat in a Box games: Blue Defense, Blue Attack!, Red Conquest, Blue Defense 2, and Fastar. They're all really great and it still bums me out the campaign mode on Red Conquest went unfinished. I think they're all ok for iOS 11 but I'm not sure. I'd add the MikaMobile catalog too: Zombieville, Zombieville 2, Battle Heart, Battle Heart Legacy, OMG Ninjas, and Lost Frontier. Pretty much if they put out a game, you should buy it. Solomon's Keep and Solomon's Boneyard deserve mention for sure. Flight Control is probably the biggest one I haven't seen mentioned. It was the king of casual touch screen gaming for a very very long time.
Smash Hit (surprised no one mentioned it) Edge Osmos Nightgate Tiny Wings Contre Jour Night Sky Duet Altos Adventure Orbitum Spaceplan
