I am seriously considering selling my ipod touch 1st gen and buying a 2nd gen, but my dad doesnt think i should. What are the differences between them and do you think its worth it? thanks
2nd Gen is faster, which isn't really noticeable IMO 2nd gen has external speakers slightly dif. design If you already have a first gen, stick with that. Anyone getting a NEW ipod should def. go with the 2nd gen though
2G has: - Much higher processor power (faster than 1G) - Built-in speaker - Volume rocker on the side - Allows you to use Apple's new earphones with remote and mic Personally I'd keep the 1G and just buy a used/new 2G
2nd generation also has nike+ built in. Important for those that run like me, it's a good motivational tool. I wouldn't rush to get a 2g model though. Just wait another few months for them to announce the 3rd gen model which I'm sure they will in good time and then get that and be ahead of all of us.
The 2G has a Broadcom chip that does Bluetooth, WiFi and FM receiving simultaneously... It's only used for WiFi and Nike+ at the moment but it could potentially be unlocked via a firmware update in the future. The faster processor is a huge plus if you plan on getting the best gaming experience on the platform (like some devs have said). The built-in speakers aren't great, but are useful for gaming and for some apps (Lightsaber sucks without speakers). The volume buttons on the side are great because on the 1G you have to take the iPod out of your pocket, press Home 2x and then change the volume. I have a 16GB 2G Touch and I'm very satisfied with it. Everything feels snappier than on my friend's 1G.
