Because that game was ruined due to the incessant need to go online. It went from a great match 3/rpg holdover until Puzzle Quest to something that just became absolutely friggin' annoying. It would've been much better served to be a standalone game sans need to go online. Some of us don't want chatter whilst playing a match 3 game, and just want a quick go of things.
Thanks to everyone I want to thank everyone for the suggestions. I checked out the free versions of a few and ended up purchasing a few. I would like to add in my recommendations for: Chop Sushi! The Trooper Smiles All are interesting variations on the Match 3 concept. I also plan to try Puzzle Quest Lite, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Regards, Michael
You may want to take a look at Saqqarah - Temple of xxxxxx There are totally 7 temples, with $0.99 each
Saqqarah would have been a fantastic game on iPhone if the developer who ported the game didn't hack it into 7 pieces. Not sure how or why Codeminion allowed for Saqqarah to get butchered on the iPhone when Stoneloops! turned out so great. I know they were developed on iPhone by two different companies but seriously... Saqqarah is a great game on Mac/PC. Not so much on iPhone
Its interesting, but of all the games recommended in this thread, these are the only three I didn't get into. Gemmed was just too easy. I played for about ten minutes and it was just kind of boring. It really needs a harder level. Right now, it feels a bit too much like Bejeweled. Both Samurai Puzzle Battle and Puzzle Quest had so much introductory material that I gave up before I ever got to any match-3ing. Which is a pity, because I really like the idea of mixed genre games. Michael
I agree. I have no problem paying $5-$10 for a good game, but I just didn't want the hassle of a game hacked into 7 pieces. Michael
The original release was a bit easy. The devs have since added obstacles, but these do not show up until later levels. The obstacles (especially the spreading slime) can definitely make for some good challenges. With the twists of bringing the monsters home and the various powerups, there is actually some good strategy in the later levels.
They are all basically the same. PuzzleQuest has a story line between matches to make you feel as though you are playing a real game.
Hey I'm really happy you like Chop Sushi. I love the wackiness of it all, combined with making all those recipes etc. I never find myself just 'matching 3' like some drone. I'd not heard of The Trooper before. Could you elaborate a little on the game play, it's uniqueness etc? I agree with you r.e Puzzle Quest. I usually go on first impressions and after trying the lite version, I decided it was all a bit too long winded for me. Gemmed never really grew on me either after playing the lite version. No idea why... I did however enjoy Samurai Puzzle Battle, as I enjoy Risk type games which this has elements of.
My personal fave is Bejeweled Its original, its the one that started them all, and its nice and simple! I am pretty sure Popcap announced Chuzzle and Zuma So chuzzle would be another great buy!
Its got a bit of a Tower Defense type of feel to it in that sometimes you have to get specific matches in order to blow up something that is moving towards your base. I do too. Maybe I will give it another try. Regards, Michael
I find it interesting that no one mentioned the best selling Match-3 for 33 replies. I used to play bejeweled on a Palm, but I just got bored by the repetitiveness of it. Regards, Michael
I'm glad Chop Sushi! is getting some love. It is by far my most fave match-3 because half the time I'm going *WTF* it's so bizarre. Definitely try [app]Big Booty[/app] it will keep you on your toes. Here is the demo [app]Big Booty Lite[/app] The goal is to try to match more than four or bad things will start to happen. It could get hard, but in a fun way!
