Well you could give this a go its free to download and try ... http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-ultimate-alphabet/id357031202?mt=8 The Ultimate Alphabet : brain game ... more info on the game play here
AirCoaster XL : can consume hours at a time creating very complex and bizarre roller coasters, riding them and sharing them with other users... The track editor is rather insane, there's more options and scope for creativity than you'd imagine... Most underrated and underpriced app. Minigore : simplistic dual stick shooter, but the quality is very impressive and smooth, highly addictive and funny... Meteor Blitz : much like superstardust, great graphics, great controls and very addictive chasing highscores... As good as geometry wars TowerMadness : quirky, addictive and very in-depth tower defence game, best TD out there, tonnes of maps, lots of weapons... Very good value for money, and infinite longevity Orbital : "one button" style gameplay, beautiful, well balanced and suitable for short and long game sessions ... But get Plants vs Zombies first
The in game help is the worst crap I ever saw, and the controls counter intuitive... when they work. I wonder who designed it but he was retarded. I advice people not buy this game designed by a retarded team, I was retarded when I bought it.
Age limit is a delicate subject, it's difficult to tell someone how educate his child. So for that point you have to test by yourself and the appstore includes age advices that could help you or not. For the ipad game point of view, it's not a good idea to limit the ipad to games adapted or made for it. The best iOS games are mostly iphone games not adapted for the ipad but running fine on it. For most iphone games the ipad size increase will bring many plus: Many games have zoom in and out functions and even for an iphone game this will work very well on the ipad. With some zoom out the graphics will be accurate and more clear on the ipad than on the iphone. Many of the best iphone games use touch controls interacting with the game window and those will work better on the ipad where the finger and hand parts will hide less the screen than a finger on an iphone. Many iphone game using touch control will work better on an ipad because the larger size will offer better touch comfort. The exception are most virtual gamepads. Most iphone games will have texts increased very well on the iphone, probably because it's not a brutal graphical zoom. And for those games the texts will be more comfortable to read on an ipad. Most iphone games will have an interface increased very well with sharp graphics. My bet is it's because the API of the iOS manage the size increase, not a pure zoom of the resulting graphic. Some of the best iphone games don't have the best frame rate in all parts of the game and many will perform better on the ipad because of its better power. This plus will be lost with time because of the iphone 4 power but will come back with next gen of ipad. But there are also minus points of using an iphone game on an ipad: Some games will be blurry because of the increased size, for many the graphics will be cute if you aren't a graphic whore with eagle eyes. But for few games the blurry will be unpleasant for anybody. Some iphone games have some texts not fully clean when increased but fine to read anyway. Some iphone games requires use the tilt function and touch controls with a free hand, because of ipod weight they don't play well on the ipad. Many iphone games use a virtual gamepad, for all using a sophisticated gamepad or even two, they don't work well on the ipad because they are too big and not well placed. Only basic gamepad and games allowing put the ipod can work well anyway on the ipad. Many iphone games will not have been tested very well on the ipad as they aren't designed and made for it and for few they'll just crash or even won't start. It's only a minority but it's rather unpleasant when this happen with a paid game. Few times I noticed a demo working well and not the full application.
None of both look perfect, from far but the graphics are clear enough to be pleasant and keep some charm despite some blocky borders. Still great games to play on an ipad and the touch controls are more pleasant because of the bigger size but that's all. Those clearly worth an ipad revamping but are great to play on an ipad. Anyway those games don't have amazing graphics and worth mainly for their gameplay. For example when looking for Crystal Cave I open by error instead of Crystal Defender, also an ipod game with size*2 but it looks great... but it has a zoom in and out function, that probably explain all but not the menu with totally accurate graphics unlike the both game quoted above. Watson: Thank you.
These are my favorite games, so far: Plants vs Zombies HD (awesome graphics and lots of fun) Fieldrunners (simple to learn but more difficult to master - for me anyway!) Harbour Master (great free game with options to buy extra maps very cheaply) Cogs HD (clever puzzle game with amazing graphics) Chop Sushi (bizarre sushi matching game that's strangely addictive) Rush Hour (same as the board game puzzle version but perfect for the iPad format) FWIW, I usually pay extra for the HD versions - the price difference isn't significant and the iPad has such wonderful screen capability that it seems a shame to waste it. Thanks all for the other recommendations - plenty more games to try!
Veggie Samurai HD (Good but need improvements) Labyrinth 2 HD (Very good game) Pinball HD (Good but could be much better) Foosball HD (Not bad but gets annoying) MiniGore HD (Terrible but you can buy it and wait for improvements)
Peppers The Game looks great on the iPad... Yes, it is my game, but take a look at it, read the reviews, many are from fellow touchArcade users and for now the price is still at its reduced price of $0.99. There are more pictures and info at www.peppersthegame.com, there is also a video of the older version, I need to update it to show the new animation and sound effects. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on the new enhancements added in my last update. I also have an update coming out that supports iOS 4 multitasking. Oh, before I leave did I mention it is a Universal game, which means I wont charge you twice when you find yourself wanting to play it at work. Cres
