I just finished the Magi series. The series was like a mix between One Piece and Avatar the last air bender. This was one of the few animes that had a good complete ending.
My most favorite shounen animes so far (not in order): 1. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 2. Attack on Titan 3. Naruto Yes I know, mainstream? haha
Magi hasn't ended yet... the source material is still ongoing and I'm pretty sure it's getting another season considering the sinbad OVAs are currently airing.
If I remember correctly Sinbad is suppose to be a sort of prequel at least taking place before Magi in it's current form. This is where I believe the mother and father of Aladdin was revealed though I may have recalled incorrectly. It is released in Weekly Shounen Sunday. It's pretty much the adventures of young Sinbad, I believe the story follow a certain Eastern mythology (I forgot the exact one but won't say any in case I say the wrong one) so the story plot can be easily deduced if one knew the originally mythology. I remember reading the author will eventually break from the original storyline in order to tie up loose ends though we haven't hit there yet (which means it's probably going to continue for a very long time, One Piece style).
Victory Gundam, and it's not good. Not as bad as F91, worse than ZZ. I keep telling myself, "at least it's not G Gundam" as I trudge through it, if only for the fact that I've watched all the other UC series and feel I owe it to myself to make it through to the end.
Wow! It's been a while since I was here, great to see the thread is still going! I started watching Trigun a couple days ago, pretty good so far!
What do you think of the new Gundam series this season? Quite a departure in tone compared to the other recent Gundam series this past year.
I'm planning to watch the first episode tomorrow, but I don't have high hopes. After that, I'll most likely watch is in chunks of 5-10 episodes because I don't like watching week-to-week. 5 episodes left in Victory Gundam, and I think the only victory will be that I can withstand this much self-inflicted suffering. I'm sure I'll repeat myself later, but all I can think about is how ham-fisted the drama is. I like the story they are trying to tell, but they're telling it so poorly, I can't care about what's happening.
Iron Blooded Orphans was better than I expected. I can't get over that one guy's dumb hair, but that's anime I guess(?). Maybe part of it is because I'm coming off a streak of terrible Gundam series, but I'm looking forward to the next episode, so that's a good sign. Victory Gundam was absolute tripe, all the way through the end. Anyone watching UC Gundam, I'd recommend stopping after Unicorn in terms of the timeline.
Trying to get somewhat caught up with UC Gundam to get a better understanding of Unicorn, the OST on Unicorn is phenomenal (composed by the famous Hiroyuki Sawano no doubt). Wonder how Origin will do.
