Agreed. I just found out about a new studio ghibli movie (2013, actually but new for the USA) that's nominated for an Oscar called "the tale of princess kaguya". Have you seen that?
Ah. I'll have it the week or so it comes out so I'll let you know if it's worth watching. Seeing as it's ghibli though, it seems like it's be a no-brainer must watch.
The manga is has a 'ecchi' tag on it so 'ecchi' in the anime does make sense. I've heard the show tones it down quite a bit compared to the manga which says the target audience for the show. I've heard the "The Tale of Princess of Kaguya" didn't really do as well for Studio Ghibli compared to other ones, especially in the international market.
I think one anime that you'll probably enjoy if you haven't watched it already is Devil is a Part-Timer. Watching the struggles of Satan working at WcDonalds is always good and fun.
I should mention, the communism that Marx and Miyazaki is talking about is quite different from the one that Stalin, Lenin, and Mao have referred to as communism ( if anything they aren't considered communism). By the time Miyazaki finished the film, he gave up on the idea of communism in Spirited Away which explains the vague nature of it. Miyazaki used to known be in Japan for being very pro-communist something that wasn't taken well during the particular time he promoted the ideology. Much of his earlier works show a very pro-communist stand point, the Valley of the Wind manga is a great example of this. By the time it has finished, one can see the anti-communist view point thought by him during the 1990s. It should be noted many anime produced during the 1980s were quite leftist in comparison to the capitalist view of Japan during the period. Here is an article on communism in the film: http://www.ejumpcut.org/archive/jc51.2009/SpiritedAway/ and a reddit post : http://www.reddit.com/r/socialism/comments/2r0gaf/i_just_watched_spirited_away_again_and_noticed/
Hopefully season 2 will be announced since the BD sold extremely well. It's been 2-3 years now so its getting iffy but I'll my breath until this summer. If there isn't an announcement by then, season 2 is not going to happen. Attack on Titan aired on the same Spring season and it got a second season confirmation.
So I finished Madoka Magica today, really really good series. I was surprised that people seemed to claim that it was so dark. (one person said that the darkest scenes of Mirai Nikki weren't even close to how dark this anime was :/) It was definitely dark, and it was fantastic, but hardly ever came close to Mirai Nikki levels of f**ked up... Maybe the movies are a lot darker? I don't know. I defiantly recommend it. (it's only twelve episodes long, so not much to lose) I said it before but I just have to repeat how stunning the witch barriers were. They were so nicely designed IMO.
Oh wow. I had considered watching that but I never checked it out. That premise instantly put that at the top of my watch list. That is the best base for a comedy anime I've ever heard.
Hhhmm. I'm just finished Special A and Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi. I'm now on episode 25 of Marmalade Boy but I'm getting bored with it so I think I'm going to watch Black Cat first before I continue it.
The Devil is a Part-Timer is already one of my favorite comedy anime that I've seen. (mind you, I haven't seen that many comedy anime) It's freaking hilarious!
Ok whoever Suggested Spirited Away you are awesome. I'm watching It and can't stop it's really really good.
