I read an interesting article today about how 10 years ago we probably didnt imagine to have touchscreens as a standard for phones today. Then the article mentioned the next development, which is touchless devices. Think Kinect, but then for phones I must say, it sounds attractive for in the car. What do you guys think?
I read a magazine that showed a device that you wear on your head that reads electrical pulses. You can basically control a touch-screen with your mind. Imagine the possibilities. Even the future if gaming.
The way they mostly work now is you have very basic controls (two or 3 options at best) and have to think extremely hard and concentrate about something to go left or something else to go right, it's way to much effort and way to limited. I don't see any future for this technology but if they start implanting chips in peoples heads or something at birth that might change. I'll stick to physical controls I'm not even very keen on touch controls.
Those kind of controls are fine, but it's hard to play some kinds of games because there's no tactile feedback like you get with physical button controls
A contact lens houses a screen that overlays picture on the real world. A motion sensing ring on your finger detects hand movements and selects relevant icons onscreen. Wireless headphones, or even headphones built in your skull, will play the music/phonecall.
Brain controlled games would be cool. Although I think it'll take a while to perfect the technology and make it affordable. And in the same way that people don't like wearing glasses to play 3D games, I doubt many people will want to wear a cap that's hooked up to their console.
Today I went to the OR room as part of clinicals and watched a surgery performed by a robot. The surgeon would be sitting somewhere else, looking at a personal screen which displayed 3D video that a camera inside the patient was picking up. He then strung his finger through little loops underneath the screen and he could move, twist, rotate, etc. his hands and the robot would match it. Then he pressed a button that shot out a laser (no lie). I think that THAT is the future.
I dont know if anyone here watches the gadget show (UK) but one of the presenters on there created a pair of augmented reality glasses which projected an on the go office with tons of communication options and it projected virtual keyboards etc. It also tracks your hand movements using tech from kinect. I think something like this would be in the near future
Could you imagine if you walk into a work with your glasses on, press a button and start typing on a computer keyboard, and when you're done, you turn the glasses off and see there were no keyboards there, it was just the glasses?
Yeah, I watch GS every week - total geek! I remember this episode, and thought what a great idea it was, and am still surprised it's not been rolled out yet.
Actually, what's funny is that the lights, computer, etc. all hung from a swivel on the ceiling and then branched off for easy moving... the name of this? Skytron. We're only three letters away now.
I'm not sure I'd enjoy controlling a game with my mind in the long term. Motion controls are one thing, but complete mind control means practically zero interaction, and it's the interaction part I enjoy. I like being able to touch my gadgets and mess around with buttons, screens and whatnot, that's half of the fun. ...and here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12400647
Yah, don't think I'd enjoy mind controlled games as well... it's the hand-eye coordination that makes video games fun! And what if your mind slips... you gotta be in super control of your mind to play a game like that.

And then one day, a virus will mess up all these devices, causing them to go rogue and instead of us controlling them, they're controlling us. IT'S THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!!! D: But seriously, with everything going electronic and shit, people would, over the years, get lazier and lazier to the point where we're SO lazy, we actually look (or even act) like zombies. Advancements in technology is fine, but there should be a limit to how advanced it gets.
