I deleted Whale Trail not long after it came out because I just couldn't get into it, but then changed my mind because it was becoming somewhat of an iOS staple. The thing is, I never really bothered playing it again. When plans for this to go freemium were announced, I didn't hesitate deleting it for the last time. Between this and the Papa Quash thing, I don't think I'm ever gonna bother with ustwo again...sorry. :/
It's been a while since I played this and wasn't sure if I'd go back to it so decided to just check out this update. The game certainly hasn't been "ruined;" just turned into an IAP currency driven one, in line with something like Jetpack Joyride, Zombie Carnaval, etc. If you don't have a problem with the way IAP is implemented there, you shouldn't here: the "fairness" seems about on par. The content additions inarguably bring more to the game. They could, just as easily have been added without the IAP model, but then I suppose if the game wasn't selling well enough would never have come about as is the case with many other titles. Bottom line? There's no train wreck to watch here, so if that's what you were hoping for just move along. This was always an excellent game; now it's even more excellent at the expense of being saddled with IAP.
Well I'm loving the update. As above^ it feels just like something like jetpack joyride or zombie carnival where you pay for the app and them it's a slow grind or IAP to speed it up. Personally I don't mind as the amount of content to unlock is what keeps me playing in this type of game. I stopped paying whale trial ages ago but now this has renewed it for me so that can only be a good thing. (it was only 69p when I bought it on release anyway so I think I had my money's worth)
The game just crashes on the load screen for me, was doing the same thing prior to the update. iPod Touch 4th Gen, 5.1.0, jailbroken.
It's horrible now. Read my earlier posts and you will see I loved this game. I had top 500 scores in distance and score.21st person to 3 star all bonus levels. Made posts here and other forums about this game. I hate it now and deleted it. What a pathetic joke.... You have to pay or play an insane amount of time just to get back to where you started. Thats what angers me. They could've added extra stuff on top of what existed and I would've gladly supported them. They could've gone the angry birds space route and made IAP of bonus levels and I would've gladly bought them. What do they do? Take a big dump on every early supporter of the game. 3 starred everything with 90% of challenges completed and they gave me 4000 krills. Enoug for like 5 upgrades. Imagine if they had gave u upgrades that let u start at 4x or 8x, etc. nope, instead you are now stuck at 2x unless you upgrade. Again, pay or play for hours just to get 32x again. Imagine if they gave u upgrades that allowed you to be more resistant to clouds? Nope, now clouds are instant death ... Unless you upgrade... Which lets u get back to where u were before the upgrade. On well, plenty of games to keep me entertained. 1 starred this game and deleted it and I'll leave it at that. If you haven't upgraded it yet, DON'T!!! Play the old version!! Avoid the upgrade like the plague. I may sound angry ... You might think I'm silly for being angry over a game. But I really enjoyed whale trail and it got me through MANY commutes to work. It was a fantastic game and I recommended it to many people. C'est la vie.
I agree.. The fact that you have to upgrade your mulitiplier, frenzy mode and so on is horrible. My record is 840.000, now i get barely 40.000 without an upgrade. After upgrading some things until I got no more krill, my score is now at 140.000. Next upgrade costs 1000 krill and there are a lot more things to upgrade, so I have to play hours maybe days just to get everything as it was before the update?! Bullsh*t ustwo.. We all payed for this game and now it's ruined! They should give everyone who payed for the game like 50.000 krill to upgrade everything or this will be deleted. Good work ustwo. Having payed for a while longer I'm starting to get some mixed emotions, leaning towards negative. -The leaderboards are now completely meaningless. -With what novelty there was rapidly wearing off the gameplay is starting to feel like a grind. -I really don't like the three large buttons positioned permanently at the edge of the screen even if you do not have the required power-up. Actually, I don't like them there even if you do. -Where previously how far you got in the game felt dependent on skill, now it feels more dependent on the limits placed on you until you upgrade. -Consistent crash bug on the fifth bonus level, and a couple of other technical oddities don't help matters.
That's my problem-I loved the game-but now I have to work to get back to it's previous "Default" settings....and work a lot!!
The developers just ruined one of the best games on the app store. It used to shine with fun, but now it reeks of profit - milking the fun right out of it. The buttons on the left side are annoying. It's totally lost its charm. Deleting this update and reinstalling the old version from my computer. Leaving a 1 star review too. (I formally left a 5 star and gifted this app to 5 people).
I had been considering getting this for my iPad but it looks like they forgot about the Retina display and got greedy instead, ruining a fine game in the process. Way to go killing a good game. Good thing I held back as this update has pretty much harpooned that whale, right in the blowhole.
Why couldn't they just add the costume shop and objectives to the older game? (maybe IAP to help the lazy people) and kept out of it the rest? Love that YETI skin, but the rest of the shop is crap. Good way to ruin a perfect game ustwo, will leave a 1 star iTunes review As you all said, this game is ruined... will enjoy (as I can, somehow) the YETI skin and finally delete this game, that WAS awesome
I've got to agree, I used to love this game but I was absolutely blown away that now the default game is so much effort to unlock now. It just smells of being money hungry now.
Knew it was going to happen........... .....but really hoping that it wasn't going to happen. Everything I hoped would happen has happened. Great game spoiled. Ruinously. Bring back the old game and work a new one instead of meddling with what some people love. If you're going to jump on a bandwagon, it's always better to jump on before it has taken off. Oh well.
