We're mad as hell about iOS games that cost money, have ads, and/or any IAP at all.

Hi guys. This is Gabrien. I was banned from TA earlier today, and didn't feel it would be right to just "disappear." If you are curious why, the only "reason" I was given is the following:

"You have been banned for the following reason:
TA's 'glorious oppressors' would now like you to stay quiet for a a 'lil' while!

Date the ban will be lifted: 08-14-2012, 07:00 PM"

I'm sending this message to the handful of folks here who for one reason or another, have become more to me than just a name on a forum. I'm sure there are others I have forgotten, but you are the ones on my Gamecenter friends list or on the one here.

This is my wife's account (which she never uses) so I don't plan to log into it again. If you need to contact me, my email address is: (edited out)

Take care. I'm going to miss you.
    ----------

One year? Really now Hodapp? MidianGTX should be back in a few weeks though. Meh..I don't know. It feels like TA's "glorious oppressors" are banning a lot of members these days.

Yeah... it does seem a tad harsh...

And it was nice having one more person who didn't just write "awesome game, I like it" - and actually had some opinions and impressions to share...

    =o/

But... you know... there's rules for a reason... =oP

MidianGTX? Huh? What did he do?

Anyway, they are banning a lot. Why not? Nobody has the right to be here. We are all guests on touchArcade. They have to right to "uninvite" those they don't see fit. The internet isn't a free speech zone. There are rules we have to follow. Simple as that.

    Yeah, you're right.

It's just like other people have said though..I'm going to miss reading Gabrien's impressions on new releases. It feels like he was the only one here on TA that could give negative criticism as often as he gave praise to games. Meh.

    But yeah, rules are rules.

Do they at least give you a formal warning of what your doing here is wrong? If so, you can't call it too harsh. But I wouldn't wanna get banned outa nowhere when I log in I get the BANNED message. Now that would be harsh.

Really? From my point of view, it seemed like he did a lot of thread-crapping and repeated the same points 10,000 times.

Perception is everything, I guess ...

I'm sure both Midian and Gabrien knew it was coming. They provoke Hodapp a little too often. Not sure if they got warnings though. Funny thing is, the first I got in trouble here on TA, I got banned for three days. I did the same thing again a year later, but I only received a warning, lol. I think it's probably because I made a name for myself in that year in between though..or Prab just likes me better than Zincous xP.
At times it did feel like that was true. He was usually much too critical of some games, ripping them apart in their release threads. I don't know..he had his moments I guess. But those were his opinions though, I'm sure. Like I said, no one on TA really ever gives negative criticism. I never bothered reading his posts here in this thread, so yeah..

Haha I was gonna say that but I thought it would be kinda cruel like adding insult to injury. But speaking of that, and my last question on banning people - say I got banned for a week, would I still be able to read reviews and view discussions? Kuz this site's got some useful gaming info.. Would be a shame to lose that privilege.

You would have to clear the cookies from your internet browser so your saved username and password are deleted. Then, you'd be able to read articles and threads as usual. But yeah, you don't even get the chance to dispute being banned with the moderator/admin who banned you once it's in place. You lose the ability to even pm the TA staff member back who banned you.

Unsually they do, in form of an infraction. You "collect infraction points" until you reach a set limit, then you will go in time-out or get banned if you done things more than once.
There are a few things which get you banned instantly, like admitting piracy or having more than one account on tA. In this case, there's no infraction, just swift justice.

Provoking mods or admins is surely a bad idea. As I said, this site isn't either mine or yours or the global community's, this site belongs to arn, Hodapp and maybe some other people.
If you think the admins & mods are oppressors, then simply go to another site or forum or make your own iPhone gaming forum. You are free to decide. Pissing mods or admins off means, they'll hand your ass over to you. You can't win a fight or a provocation, so just don't try it.
If you want to be part of touch Arcade, follow the rules.

touchArcade might be like Cuba - once you visit, you'll have to take care about what you say or do. If I would have called Fidel Castro a "glorious oppressor" in a sarcastic way, Cuba would have kicked me out faster than I could imagine. Or I ended up in jail. Same applies here. If you don't like the admins or mods, leave tA - swallow your anger and get used to it. But just as an addition: I have never seen Hodapp attack someone because he doesn't like her/him or disagrees with him. But if someone talks or makes shit (especially about/with developers or mods), he might be approached by Eli. How Eli approaches the person mostly depends on what the person did.

But still people think they're funny by calling the hosts "oppressors" and are pissed when they get "silenced". This "free speech" stuff is just blah blah.

lmao @ that quote. And yeah, sounds fair to me. To take advantage of someone's open forum site to bend the rules or verbally insult them = swift boot to the face for you.

Ps. If I had any clue on how to quote you in my sig, that would definitely be a part of my every post. Haha.

    /noob

    Thanks. ;)
Quote in sig: just go to your own user control panel (user cp), there is an option to put things into your sig. Just quote me like normal and copy the string over to your signature. :p

People need to realize that we aren't in Sherwood Forest here and they can't play Robin Hood vs. The Evil Sherif Of Hodappham.
Be sure that arn, Eli and the mods know that an active and nice community is one of the main engines that keeps touchArcade up and running. It also guarantees that more users are registrating. So, it is natural that they simply aren't interested in fights or other trouble. But if some people want to play it hard, they'll likely get the appropriate answer. Of course there are always people who don't like this or that, but discussing it in a friendly tone helps quite more than running around, insulting developers (which also keep touchArcade running) and after that, the mods and admins. Think of virtual suicide. Criticism is accepted on the other hand, they even have an own sub-forum for it (where you can leave positive/negative feedback): http://forums.toucharcade.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3
Do it in a respectful way and you'll get an answer from the Sherif Of Hodappham himself.

Thanks. I've never touched the User CP tab. I'm not exactly here for myself. Just to support the awesome devs who keep the AppStore populated and the iOS community running.

    Thanks again. ;)

    Yo.

Btw., don't forget another important fact:
some people might make something like a living with this website / forum.
And... going into a brewery and pissing in the brewers barrels wouldn't please him at all, I assume.
Take this into account when juging over this sites admins.
