The WiiWare store is a joke. There are some decent titles on there, even some really good ones (and when MotoHeroz is out, I'll be one of the first to download it), but no matter how you look at it the WiiWare store costs a lot more, gets only an agonizing trickle of titles, and is filled with just as high a percentage of dreck, and probably more. Just that the dreck costs a lot more. The DSiWare store is even worse. I can't comment on 3DSWare.
Spend most of my time in these forums to get impressions on new games, but as someone who can't afford to just spend, spend, spend on games, I do look for deals/freebies as well. That doesn't mean that I don't spend more on games. I bought Chaos Rings the day it came out at $12.99. While I agree that a lot of people don't take the iOS seriously as a "core" gaming platform and the biggest hits are the casual games (ie., Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, etc.), I disagree that it's lacking games for hardcore gamers. Games like League of Evil may seem on the surface as "casual" games, but it takes someone who is really a hardcore gamer to play some of those games. There are some seriously difficult games on the iOS that are still successful and appeal to hardcore gamers. Someone who plays Angry Birds and could easily buy a game that's "too hard" for them on the iOS. Anyway, I consider myself a hardcore gamer -- owning all three current systems (360, PS3 and Wii) -- but I've found myself playing my iPod Touch more than any of those systems lately. Mainly because of time. With two kids and a wife who hates gaming, those precious few moments on the can or a few minutes before I go to sleep are when I get the chance to game now a days. And money is another factor. With our bank account dwindling, I can't afford $60 games anymore (all three of those systems were bought several years ago). So, in any case, it's just due to the App Store economy that games should be a $1 that is a self-fulfilling prophecy. With even the big publishers like Gameloft and EA regularly running $1 sales, I don't see that mentality going away anytime soon. Does that mean I won't consider games $3 or more? Absolutely not. But because of my wallet and knowledge that games on the iOS almost always go on sale, I make sure it's a decent game first. Unless you don't have any financial worries at all, the $1 game trend -- like it or not -- is going to set a predisposition to most people that a game that's more expensive should be worth the same as X number of games they could get cheaper. Sometimes you do get burned regardless of price. I got Roboto at $2.99 because it looked and sounded great from early impressions. It runs like crap on my iPod 2G (which I would love to upgrade, but just can't afford to right now). Unfortunately, that's going to make me look at future purchases more closely because even cheap games add up. Again, I think developers have every right to price their games at what they think they should be. And I do sometimes pay the "big bucks" if I really want something. The monsterous App Store economy just dictates those prices mainly because of so much competition.
Yeah, I tend to agree with this. There IS a higher level market, mainly created by EA and Gameloft, though even they have broken it by doing sales all the time. I think one of the few high end devs that's mostly stuck to their guns is SquareEnix. They have the highest priced games and have left them at that for the most part, with only the occasional 50% off sale. But it doesn't seem like anyone else is following suit. The result of much of this is that F2P/Freemium games will continue to grow and resulting sales for them will be much higher. It's a hugely successful model and a flexible one too. I think more and more developers will opt for it as time goes on.
...So Destroy Gunner SP is worth the price just because of "rational logic". And Angry Birds isn't worth the price because YOU didn't like the gameplay. Nice rational logic there.
Hehe... isn't what this thread is about? Just accept it. Everyone is biased towards games that they like. I seriously don't see the point of any sort of argument here.
I think he was pointing out your sense of "rational" logic. Which from what I've seen, is not so great. Saying a game is worth 9 dollars isn't so bad. But to say a game isn't worth a buck because YOU don't like it, now that's funny.
Oh lol, it was meant to be (don't take it seriously though, like the rest of this thread ) And to AB's credit, it has incredible value for money but the whole puzzle concept doesn't quite stick with me...
Not really my type of game either but I'll comment that it'll probably be on sale at some time or other if not already.
I didn't see it as him making any kind of blanket statement. It was just an opinion. He thought 9 dollars was worth it for a game he liked and a dollar wasn't worth it for a game he didn't like - wouldn't that apply to any game and any of us? Heck I don't even download free games sometimes if I don't think I will "like" it. People need to lighten up in here - opinions are not facts, we are all free-thinkers I would hope. Just cuz one person doesn't like a game doesn't mean we all have to agree.
Really?? This ENTIRE thread is full of re-hashing old posts... this thread will keep going on and going on while people keep wanting to add to the thread... It's NEVER the end of it...
No, I meant the end of our misunderstanding/disagreement. But I haven't read the entire thread so I guess in that sense it's perfectly logical to "rehash" a discussion where the 2 parties have already came to a common understanding. EDIT: ... /that's what I thought Satisfaction is mine! Kidding!
