Disagree completely. Xbox live has a section of thei app store devoted to the indie developer, and there are some excellent games ( trials comes to mind) that are inexpensive and doing well. If the indies are forced to go head to head, then they will likely fail, but apple would likely follow the MS model, and give indies their own section (Apple benefits too).
Not sure what you're trying to say here. By the way, I agree with you that the lower end of the market is often too low, and in no way is that healthy for anybody either. It pains me to see games regularly drop below the price they're clearly worth. I am by no means advocating a "99c or bust" mentality. As with most things, a balance constitutes the healthiest state. Above all though, I think the foremost thing to keep in mind is what's made the app store and iOS gaming the success it is: ridiculously affordable gaming. And it needs to stay ridiculously affordable to keep its place. It's the reverse mentality that consoles have clung to throughout the years: cheap device + expensive games. Well I like it the other way around. I like it lots and I want it to stay that way.
I don't actually think there is a wide gap between our views. I'm certainly not arguing in favor of any of EA's business practices. As I've watched the community grow, I've witnessed far more underpricing and complaining about $2 apps than overpricing, so that's what concerns me. You may have witnessed the exact opposite, for all I know. I think the market will decide what price is too high, but they will never complain if prices are too low. I'm just afraid they may eat themselves alive. Your view that big publishers will eat the small developers alive is no less valid, particularly since that's exactly what happened in the console business. If price is commensurate with value, I think the app store could live forever. Look at songs on iTunes; instead of charging 10 bucks for 10 songs, they decided to charge one buck for one song. Boom, left the music industry in the dust.
Sorry, I was saying the original argument is not valid. A common debate tactic is to imply the sky is falling, because you see an apple drop, which is called a slippery slope argument. For instance, "If my neighbor owns a firearm, pretty soon everyone on my block will own one!" It's a fallacy. Just because this app sells for $16, it does not mean the next will be $20, and then $25, and so on. I agree with you that low price point played an important role, but there were a number of other important factors. The biggest being that the iPhone is a Trojan Horse, meaning that you get someone to buy something they want or need and then later, introduce a number of things above and beyond it's most obvious use, most likely for a price. Everybody needs a phone, right? Oh, kewl, I can put my grocery list on it...and send email, nice...ooh, look at that cute little bird. Die pigs, die!! You get the idea. Speaking of Trojan Horse, has anyone hooked their iPad up to their 65" TV yet? I have. OMG, a 1080p home gaming console that people didn't even buy as a gaming console...look out big three publishers, there's a new kid in town, and he stealing your sales at an alarming rate. Potential game-changer, if Apple plays their cards right.
I would be more happy to hold off buying the earlier released iphone versions if dev's go the W.O.G. and S.A.S. route and open up the iphone version for free later for those who buy the ipad version as with when you get the DVD free when you buy the Blu-Ray of a movie. I soooo hope this gets adopted as the standard, if only Apple would force dev's to do this. For now I'm sticking to my only double dipping for 59p rule- which is still bull t.b.h.
Buddy, well - no offense intended, but you should really go and see a doctor! Even our "embarassing-huge-pile-of-apps-owner" (who's name I'll not mention because whining is possibly looming ahead) would go green with envy.
Ok my posts got deleted? Im really angry now with this thread. What gives you the right to do so? I can say anything i want this is a free world and if i said that this GAME IS OVERPICED, IT IS MY OPINION, 5 DOLLARS IS TOO MUCH FOR ME AND I CAN EXPRESS WHATEVER I WANT. YOU DONT HAVE TO DELETE MY POSTS IF YOU ARE AFRAID OTHERPEOPLE MIGHT CONSIDERS MY WORDS. NOT EVERYTHING IS POSSITIVE, ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE EVERYONE LIKING THIS GAME. IM REALLY PISSED OFF AND NOW YOU WILL SEE MY RAGE. PEOPLE: THESE DEVS REMOVES THE THE POSTS THEY DONT LIKE, SO IF THIS GAME SEEMS REALLY GOOD IS BECAUSE THEY REMOVE THE BAD COMMENTS, SO DONT BUY THIS GAME AND DONT SUPPORT DEVS LIKE THIS. THEY ARE NOT GOOD AT ALL. THEY DONT SUPPORT FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
Actually the mods removed ur posts not the dev. Also on the forums when you sign up you agree to follow their rules etc etc thus giving them the right to remove things that break their rules and distrupts the discussion. Anyways the game looks nice so I wouldn't say it's "overpriced" I've seen worse cost twice or three times more so can't complain that much.
Devs can't remove posts on this thread -- only mods can. And this is a private forum, so the concept of freedom of speech doesn't apply.
But saying its overpriced is my opinion and im entitled to it, its my right. Im not enlgish native speaker so i dont know any other way of saying this
I don't like saying thing like this, but somehow, you're right. I never heard such a complete nonsense before on TA. I am also sure he must have bitten a few times in his caps-lock key while writing. And actually it's: Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare the Banhammer!
Some day The Frost is going to be in a situation where he doesn't really mind spending $5 on a game he wants to play anymore, then we'll direct him back to that post and embarrass the s*** outta him. There's a whole lot more crap in here than when I last looked, you guys are really crying the house down
Rofl, that's not me is it? Is it? No one those are all paid apps though; I don't think there's even 1000 decent paid games yet. On a different note, LOL WHAT DID I JUST READ BY THEFROST?!?!?! LOOOOOOOOOL, f**k bro.
Hmmm... TheFrost already apologized for his behaviour. He still has to learn a lot about TA. And no, its not you. Read the last 15 pages, might give a clue about the person I've meant (but the name has to stay unspoken).
Heh, I'm not calling him out or insulting him. I just found the comments extremely funny, but yeah, true enough. Oh..him. LOL.
