We're mad as hell about iOS games that cost money, have ads, and/or any IAP at all.

This is crazy. I own all of the Square Enix games but this will be a pass for me. I understand the fact that it may be a super quality game but this is crazy. They know people will want the game badly so they jack the price way up. Its sad because they are such a respected company but to me, this just drops them to down right greedy! Look for my purchase once its fairly priced!

Better here than in the game thread where it began. No one made the thread "up" just to start trouble - posts were separated from the main game thread so that remains pure of the pointless banter.

Everyone is suddenly an expert in here it is laughable actually.

    I'm happy with the price.
I mean I bought it on DS for $50 NZ and it's $20 NZ now for a great game. :)
I think you've all just been too affected by cheap iPhone games :3

I cannot agree more on this statement . Games like Tilt to live (a lot of re playability) and Battle for Wesnoth (a lot more content) are way cheaper. Plus, chances are I won't play that game for a second time after I've completed it so I see a much better / more efficient way of spending my money . Which is also why I have yet to buy it .

However on the other hand , if you have a game like Mission Europa with insanely long gameplay , then it's worth it . I'm not saying other games without a long gameplay aren't worth a high price tag. Look , if you can spend 10 bucks (that's the price of it here) on a cinema ticket that can only give you 2 hours of entertainment , why can't you spend it on a game instead ? I guess you could also use this to argue for why one should pay 14 dollars for this game .

Oh well, I guess paying all those people on the game credits salaries is much, MUCH less than creating the physical media eh?

You mean "they know people want the game so they price it realistically". It's not friggin' greed, it accurately depcits the value of the content, which is rare on the App Store.

Yeah, they're called common sense pills. At least I'm not begging for higher prices, expecting that to reflect on quality.

I personally don't jack-off to the Final Fantasy Series like most people here do. I can't wait until "slightly" better games come out for $30. We'll see how profitable that will be.

Why do other companies charge less than $10 for a great, original game (ex. GOF2) while Square Enix is charging $16 for a 20 year old port that does not utilize features found in today's current games. I suppose most of you would pay $16 for Super Mario Brothers just for nostalgic reasons.

I want to keep the quality up and the price down. Isn't EPIC, GAMELOFT, CHILLINGO, etc etc., keeping true to this model. Even the almighty ROCKSTAR kept GTA at $10. I'm sure many people would have paid $20 for INFINITY BLADE (at least that can justify higher pricing) than the current cheap price, but were amazed and relieved when it was selling for way below the expected retail. Ask yourself this as well, how many people that had to have that game still play INFINITY BLADE religiously on their iphone. Well, everybody has benefited because of such decisions. If you support this crappy price point just because your little, shriveled junior gets off on Jap-anime, be my guest. Calling me crazy in a world where normalcy is determined by your "FANBOY" level and willingness to pay the highest price, is the greatest compliment you can give any rational thinker.

Things DEVELOPERS (not customers) have complained about on this site:--------------------------------------------------------------------------

***Pricing not profitable enough for developers (a.k.a. my game sucks)

***Apples closed community deprives people of certain apps (a.k.a. apple won't let us use spyware or lie about our app's purpose----to sell your personal info)

***Developers who can't sell their apps at $16 will give up development on the iOS. (a.k.a. pay up bitches or we'll threaten to leave----but really we won't because smart-phones are the future of gaming, we just like to see what your breaking-point is).

It makes me curious about who is really instigating these conversations. $16 is not much money, like I said in another post. But when everyone becomes complacent and is willing to spend $6 on a canned-soda at Disneyland, it becomes the norm. The premium price point is $5-$10. Square Enix tried to raise that standard (not quality, but price) with the $13 sale of CHAOS RINGS. Now they are trying to up that price point to $16 for something old old old old old and less impressive than the former. If no one bought this, it would be $10 the next week.

However, thank God we have the pathetic, overly sensational FAN-FACE who would cut off his own 'nards to replay - what is considered by today's standards - a highly mediocre RPG. What annoys me most is that a good 90% of these Fantasy heads have played this before, why care so much now that your willing to pay the SE-tax $$$.

You don't have to like my disdain for enthusiastic, over-zealous, impulse buyers, but don't interpret your disgust with my personal views as a guideline for the valid and reasonable point that I am making.

I welcome the flames, just be sure to validate your point with something other than "you don't make sense." If my interpretation of this omen I see unfolding in the app-store (lead by Square Enix) is gravely mistaken, please enlighten me with your justification of higher pricing for older games when other "big" developers like EA, GAMELOFT, ACTIVISION, SEGA and others are not. Rome is burning son, and your asking for more matches.

About the topic : it was about time that some popular producer grew some balls and rose the price to what it was meant to be in the first place.

What's deceiving is that it took 3 years ...

So you've disproved your point.----------- "The biggest reason is that publishers and distributioners don't want to damage their relationship with physical retail outlets."---------------

Not that it costs the same to distribute digitally, but rather to keep pricing equal as to not deter from sales of physical disk media. Do you honestly think that the UPS/FEDEX deal, disc burning, printing, marketing, middle-man distribution, doesn't cost much?

Why do people believe that if iOS pricing doesn't go up, then the quality won't go up. I've seen PS3 games go from $60 to $30 in literally less than 2 months. That's including all the costs mentioned above with physical-disc-media as well as competing with trade-ins/used copies and they are still making a profit. The 30% cut that is taken by apple for being on a 300+ million user-store does not compare to the factory-costs of producing/distributing a tangible product. Anyone who's taken a business course knows that simple fact. Digital Distribution is cheap, easy and quick for game developers and EBOOK authors by bypassing a lot of Industry RED TAPE.

I will advise you to improve your reading comprehension. It confuses me when I stated very clearly, with emotional constraint, my point of view. I feel I have failed to relay my concerns at a comprehensible level when you have clearly misinterpreted my behavior. Do not misinterpret "feisty" with "mad."
