I'm sorry but I guess I just think it's laughable to even suggest that Final Fantasy fans won't be buying this in droves. Square Enix has proven year after year that they can slap the "Final Fantasy" label on absolutely anything from energy drinks to $6 wallpaper apps and people will buy it. $14 might be considered expensive in the weird price whining echo chamber that is the App Store, but not only is this an even better version of the game than the DS iteration, it's also selling for cheaper than GameStop is even selling used copies of the DS game.
LOL @ people who think price is determined by the opinion of one arrogant non-customer. "I think this is overpriced, therefore it is."
Hey, may I have some of the pills you've taken? I wanna have these funny thoughts, too. Blocks every reality check for sure. Wow, it's like you've just told everybody: "god, please flame me, I really like that".
I have one of these I bought as a souvenir, a soda actually. I still haven't opened it and I have no idea if it's even still good.
I cant moan about the Final Fantasy price as at the end of the day that company gave millions to Japan because of the disaster. But i admit when i got into the whole iOS craze a few months ago its because i was stunned how cheap games were. Then i read people moaning if a games 59p and saying 'i'll wait for when it becomes free'. Hello ? 59p (Or 99c). Bit like one hamburger or a choclate bar. As i said before in the 80's as kids were didnt have much pocket money, games were £7.95 ($13) each, thats why kids were taping lots of games and copying them as they couldnt afford to keep up with all the games. Nowadays you get some quality games for 59p or 99p. Even the £1.19 ones are still a bargain. BUT iOS companies are making millions. If a games 59p then surely a lot more people will think 'so cheap i'll give it a go and buy it' rather than if its £3.00. If Final Fantasy was £1.19 then surely they would get many many more sales, yes at £12 or whatever it is they'll make a lot but surely wont sell as many ? Make it cheaper and the 'hmm i'll wait' type people will buy it anyway as its so cheap. Cheaper = way more sales ? So the companies will still make a big profit ?
P.S.: according to another thread, S/E has founded / is founding two new dev studios who concentrate on smartphone porting and development. I think that this is the proof that S/E is indeed very successful on the AppStore.
You got most of it the other way around buddy. If you've read my posts you'll find that I said that I'm going to buy this game no matter the price and at the time there were rumors already about it being $15. Again with the AAA games, it has nothing to do with the price of this particular game. Besides, since when companies share their financial reports with each other? If you want more devs to invest on iOS, then it is Apple that you need to contact, because, and I've stated this before, they still haven't made the iOS suitable enough for gaming. I didn't say NGP is a better console, I was trying to make a point and you missed it. BTW, iOS is not perfect, but it is getting better and better. @Eduku, nothing with the thread. Just ranting. I was trying to point out that the App Store is indifferent to any developer which means that small developers are reduced to selling their apps at smaller price than bigger ones. Though the fact that apps like angry birds can garner such success means just as much as having big companies like SquareEnix releasing games at much higher price. To me, App Store is the best form of consumerism. And what SquareEnix has done with FF3 can summed with a quote from Marx: "If production be capitalistic in form, so, too, will be reproduction." >> The true meaning of this quote has nothing to do with the thread as well But it does have another meaning that rings true to this thread yeah? After all, FF3 for iOS is a reproduction of FF3 for the DS which is also a reproduction of the NES version.
iOS companies aren't making millions. An extremely low percentage who are lucky enough to hit the top 25 might be making good money, but most of them aren't particularly any better off than when they started. 100+ new games hit the App Store every day, yet the top 25 list hardly ever changes. I think the main reason FF is launching at a "real" price is because it's still gonna sell like hot cakes. Yes, it'd sell at $0.99, but it's going to sell regardless. If they ever reach a sales lull they can temporarily lower the price and bounce it back up again. Starting realistically gives you the advantage of being able to adjust the price however you want while starting low means your customers expect it to stay low.
Square Enix also can't completely devalue the Final Fantasy series like every other iOS developer is more than willing to do. They're still selling their games on many other platforms, believe it or not.
Agree with MidianGTX, also, do remember that Gameloft tried selling at "premium" price too with thier Modern Combat 2 game. They had to lower it to the current price and they haven't changed it back since. I think that proves to AAA games worshippers that no matter how much SquareEnix is charging for FF3 or any of their games will not change anything much. Gameloft tried to copy the strategy, but then again, what is it that Gameloft doesn't copy I wonder?
There is no discount accredited for digital distribution. There just isn't. It simply doesn't work that way. The biggest reason is that publishers and distributioners don't want to damage their relationship with physical retail outlets. Just look at pricing on Direct2Drive, on Steam, on iTunes for movies and albums, on the PSN store, especially as it relates to the PSPgo, and on Xbox Live Marketplace, where they sell full 360 games digitally, at no discount. PSN and Live also sell digital movies at the same price as retail.
Even if there were a discount, I've never really been unhappy with the prices I pay... I personally wouldn't care if the developers just made more profit. More games for us. ...probably an unpopular opinion around here though.
