LOL at the new title indeed. Oh Hodapp.. You said it Vovin. SE is honestly the only company who can charge the proper prices for games, and do well. I hope more companies follow suit.
If anyone from Square reads the forums; as many developers do. I would like to say thank you for thinking of the iOS. I know there are a lot of negative complaints, but many of us are grateful. We hope you continue to support iOS and we look forward to your future releases [like many hoping for Chrono, DQ and would absolutely love FF VII, perhaps the best rpg ever (obviously personal opinion)]. Some of us are appreciative and feel that the price is reasonable as no ther system would offer this type of game for such a low price. Thank You
Thanks for your contribution to this discussion. Well said. On topic: Yep, the new thread title is pretty epic.
That doesn't make me very happy. 4 days, less than 15 puzzles in, could have saved a whole buck. While that doesn't seem like much it is the principle of it all. Again I get burned being an early adopter. Such is the life of app store gamer - I have accepted my lot in life but I wish you devs would stop doing that.
Honestly, I'm not surprised to see the price sit at $13.99. As stated by many, it's essentially a DS port, and we've seen Square Enix isn't afraid to charge upper-tier (for the App Store in 2011, anyway) prices for their games. I've paid 6 bucks for unpolished, finnicky games, and hopefully this price assures top quality (in terms of graphics, possible bugs, touch integration, etc). I will agree Chaos Rings is ten bucks of junk, but FFIII is far from the unproven entity CR was when it was released. FFIII was a fantastic game, and while I haven't played the DS version, I'm sure this will be fantastic. And it's the App Store people, it'll be on sale for $5.99 at some point in time. Patience, screen tappers.
I can see the logic in that. But let's be realistic here, we have EA, SquareEnix, Gameloft, Capcom, Big Fish, and many more great companies out there developing and publishing games for iOS. What more do you want. There are many factors that need to be put into account here, the hardware limitation, interface restrictions, size limitation, content limitation, etc. those things factor in when a developer is deciding whether to develop a game for iOS or not. So far they have but Apple and statistics (also from Apple) telling them that iOS is a very good gaming platform. But the reality is, which is the main point I want you to see as well, iDevices are not meant to be used as a gaming platform. It is seen as such only in the last couple of years or so. An iPod is for music, iPhone is for calling, texting, and tending to business matters, even the iPad is much more intended for reading books and surf the web than gaming. AAA game titles may or may not come to the iOS sooner or later and it has little to do with the pricing. Major gaming companies handle more than one game at a time and iOS gamers are well-known to make witty remarks such as asking this and that in the next update and so on and we can't expect these companies to be bothered with that. Unless you can explain to any developers what you regard as an AAA title (which would be your criteria and may or may not reflect the opinion of others), you can't expect other big game companies to just enter the App Store hoping to gain big bucks out of it. Consoles are still the money-maker and iOS still has a long way to go to be considered seriously as one of them. For example, we still don't have a way to backup our save game files. Yes, it is backed up whenever you sync but once you remove the game to make space for other games, poof they're gone! Graphically speaking, unreal engine is one of the best game engines out there and Epic games is a big developer, would you say that Infinity Blade is a AAA title? The amount of people playing this game and the amount of publicity the game gets surely say that it is one, but it will be even more so when NGP is out and this game will definitely play better on it, why? because the NGP is a gaming console. The hardware is intended specifically for playing games. Suffice to say, if you want to play games, or a certain title, get the console it plays on. A great person from your country by the name of Karl Marx wouldn't agree.
I think the pricing is more than fine... just fine. fine FINE fine just fine. I don't like it, but speaking in the face that I paid $40 for the DS version, and loved the god damn balls out of it, I will definitely get this to see how much it has improved graphics-wise. I will just have to wait, as I am extremely poor.
Are you sure about your being extremely poor? If so, do move to my country, Indonesia, and you'll be considered rich here. Another thing for all those who desire AAA titles and more expensive apps. App Store is international. Asking for higher price simply means you are ignorant of all the other less fortunate countries. Just sayin'
An argument for the price being too high: When you buy a console game, you buy the hard copy and the right to sell that hard copy later. When you buy an iOS game, you do not buy the right to transfer ownership of the game. A $14 iOS game is actually more than I spent to own brand new Wii games for a couple months over the last year. Arguments for the price being right: Square makes great games, and in order to continue making great games, the price should be set at the profit maximizing price. Pricing games too low would hurt their brand equity and ability to sell as many full-priced copies on other systems. A Final Fantasy game priced at $14 has more than three times the content and depth of games priced at $5.
Well, this is a AAA game which sold on DS at normal retail price. (£30). I'm okay with this price as the game is pure quality. Not many people complained about Chaos Rings, and that was certainly worth the price of admission.
I'm from Indonesia, and this game is an Instabuy for me.. I don't mind the price, just because if Square thinks of iOS as a great console, any other developer will follow.. I just want more AAA games with great depth and quality, and I think it's fine to spent $14 for this game.. I don't ask for a higher price, but I just want to make developers more interested to invest on iOS.. If you said NGP is a better console, then wait for it to come out and play with it.. not everyone like to carry an extra gaming device on their pocket.. iOS is just perfect, even with limitations, but its mobility is the best.. If you think the price is too high, simply don't buy it.. Square doesn't persuade you to buy their games..
I agree. People state that pricing is better on iOS. Remember why that is. More than half of a physical-disk-media's cost is in shipping, printing, producing, recording/burning, marketing, etc. These costs were incorporated into the price of the game. For the app store, you just submit. That's all. More people are inclined to by something at $4.99 than $14.99. If this were a new game like chaos rings was, then maybe. Instead, this is a remake of a remake from a 15 year-old game. Personally, I thought chaos rings was way over-priced. People had bitten the chaos rings mystery, but I doubt they will see much profit from this unless they pull the "help Japan" promotion. If no one bites on their pricing, they'll either change their over-ambitious goals or leave the app store. I personally hope they leave. They are arrogant, price gouging, wanna-be game-changers, and instead of adapting to the advantages/disadvantages of the app-store, they are dictating and trying to negatively impact the reasonable pricing of the app-store.
Now this thread is getting good. Let's see, 60 hours of gameplay at $13.99, that's about 24¢*an hour. Too expensive for my blood! I'll stick to free books from the library.
Makes sense, this +1. People who think that 14 bucks are expensive should show me where else I can have fun for $0.24 per hour. Can you explain the meaning of this, Eli?
