In that case you have some serious troubles. Why do you find it necessary to reply to some stranger on an internet forum? Its not a battleground where you HAVE to win. Not really sure why you are still continuing here (I know the excuse hodapp bumped it. Its not really an excuse just so you know)
thanks for the link. so yeah, that update should solve this whole thing, right? i suppose that depends on the actual content they're updating it with...but yeah. hopefully this will curb the discussion between those that find the pricetag unjustified, and those who have bizarre huge boners for canabalt so they have to defend it in every way, even if it means less content for the consumer. keep fighting the good fight.
let's face it, this place is getting way more action, and the dev himself is responding. and, quite contrary to what you believe, an update with more CONTENT for the game is a major part of this discussion. can't figure out how? i'll give you some time to think about it. i did miss the post due to the ongoing discussion, but luckily a decent poster linked me to it.
http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AdamSaltsman/20091206/3743/Bytes_The_099_Problem.php Pretty Good post imo, like it. Says the truth - this dev has probably made a hell of a lot more than most by having canabalt at $2.99 even if $.99 games have sold more. He is making money, and is happy with his position - he won't change the price, so just live with it. Whining here won't change anything.
It is now that he's confirmed it. Before that it was our price range discussion and then you joining in every few minutes whining about something else.
Hi, Nothing like being disgusting and insulting to try and make a point. Some people like the game and feel that the trash talk by some people is unjustified. No need to gutter talk. All the negative talk is making me want to buy this and support the developer more. David
please do buy it. i bought it. apparently there's more content coming and now i'm completely satisfied. this entire thread is honestly a pile of sarcastic underhanded gutter talk from both sides. so really, singling me out means nothing. but really, i do recommend buying it. it's good for what it is now, and there's an update in the pipeline complete with leaderboards, so the price doesn't even seem harsh anymore.
Hi, Thanks for the recommendation there, nodoctors. That does mean a lot coming from you. If you did not catch, in the part of your post I quoted, why I singled you out, please reread your post. David
Wait a minute. You work? I`d assumed you as someone who gets his for iTunes allowance from his/her parents. How could you work and still care THIS much for 3 frigging bucks. Atleast you learned a lesson that you should not buy anything unless you are 1000% sure that it`s worth your money. That alone should be worth more than the 3 bucks you spent on canabalt
Thanks for compliment Pricing is a difficult thing for devs to get right... We decided to sell JCS for 1.99USD because we knew there were certain things missing from the game and we wanted to avoid flak from that - mind in a strange way we received flak anyway from a small proportion of people. The other reason why we set the price low was to offer the best bargain on the App Store... This sort of worked for Europe and Japan where sales a pretty good but the US (the largest market) backfired on us. I get a feeling the US is not use to playing old hardcore game play And the last reason was to generate a user base that knows the name True Axis (we have pedigree as individuals but not as a company) for our next release. Anyway, going back to the thread subject. I've really enjoyed playing Canabalt - I've certainly got my monies worth from the game.
i'll keep my suggestions of boners to myself then. now i feel like i'm a bigger fan of the game than those just blindly saying "IT'S A PREMIUM GAME, YOU PAY PREMIUM PRICE" for a one level one song game. you see, i'm the bigger fan because i'm not just fine with it being a one level premium game, i want MORE. yeah, that's right, a fan that wants more. and you know what else more would do, aside from satisfying the already existing fans? bring in more fans and end this debate. so yeah, thanks again for the heads up on the update. hopefully this leads to even more in the future
Hi, Nodoctors, Thanks for the first part of the post there. Now, I am not a fan or critic of the game, just not understanding some of the nastiness in this thread. I do not necessarily consider this a "premium" game. Now, having said that, the asking price is a clue that this is not priced in a "premium" category. Looks nice and entertaining, this is what I look for, hence my interest in buying it. David
just so you know, you can play the game right here http://canabalt.com/ an app's price being considered premium is relative to the market that surrounds it. it's only considered premium based on the idea that they're charging 2.99 for what often amounts to 30 seconds of gameplay on the same single grey scale stage. it's not much, but for what it is, it's extremely polished and tweaked to perfection. it's, again, just not much. personally, i'm just a fan who wants more for his 3 dollar support than the flash game he already played the crap out of, and it looks like that's coming true in the near future. even if i come off as an angry fan, i'm giving the thumbs up now. besides, it's your angry demanding fans that'll make a stronger dev.
In exchange for my 299 shiney copper discs I expect: 299 hours of gameplay 299 song soundtrack 299 unique levels 299 game buttons 299 colors in the art style 299 content updates 299 personalized answers from the developer to any question I have Is that really too much to ask? I worked hard for those 299 cents.
I love our fans. I love everyone who has ever supported us, and I especially love the few people who are angry at us/me. It means more to me than anything else in the world that people out there are passionate about something I made; that is what I live for. However, speaking both as a lifelong student of game design and as a small businessman, I am happy to say that angry, demanding fans have absolutely NO effect on how I design my games or how I run my business. I credit this lack of consequence (NOT lack of love) with my ongoing survival and success, and I plan to continue taking angry, demanding fans with a monumental grain of salt (and a hug) for the rest of my life
*Cough sarcasm*.... Anyway... the game looks nice, but for me I wouldn't pay $3 for it since I can tell that I'd only play it a few times. It depends on the person.
