Ah, I really hope this board has no upper limit on the ignore list ;)

Didn't pull it out of anywhere, I just have a brain capable of doing more than living in a paranoid delusion that can't help but see people charging a lot less money than I will spend on generating feces before dinner for an excellently produced video game as some sort of scam, a skill set you are obviously lacking. Really didn't require a lot of thought to see how they had balanced the IAP and early game to realize that anything more than my $5 figure is about tipping the devs for their hard work, and even the $5 is, at most, saving yourself 2-3 days of time on a game you'll have on your device six months from now.

At any rate, let's see, iOS games I've spent $10 or more on:

    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Ravenmark
    Great Big War Game
    Cabals
    The World Ends With You
    Junk Jack

Now, let's see, non-iOS games I've spent $10 or more on...

Yeah, pretty much all of them. A couple of DS ware games in there I got for less, a PC PopCap game or two, and a couple of clearance games over the years but, otherwise, that's 25 years of buying video games, and a lot of them, all for over $10, and usually over $30.

Still, it's true, I do spend money all the time on IAP in iOS games because I'm not a kneejerk reacting fool who vehemently objects to the notion of people making a living for entertaining me. Yet, for some mad reason, in spite of supporting game development far more than a troglodyte like yourself, I've never once needed to spend what I have to tip on a modest meal out with my wife to feel as though I'd gotten good value for my dollar and rewarded solid game development on a platform where too many people are like you and think $2 is actually a good price to pay for a professionally produced video game that will engage them for dozens of hours over multiple weeks of real time.

What a strange world we live in where I can routinely buy excellently produced games AND pick up extensions like coin doublers and the like for less than the tip on a meal out to make up for the fact that someone like you will rage under the delusion they should have already gotten everything out of the box and a pony for $2 :D

I really hate timer based games... Not saying RR3 is bad, but for some reason the timer thing usually turns me off to most games. What do you think about it?

Ah, right. I don't see farming as necessary in that. You just play because it's fun, nothing more to it. Play a lot and you're rewarded with more stuff. The same applies to games without IAP too, that's kinda what makes a game good.

£2 and has iap's? Devs are getting greedy.

I don't mind paying a couple of quid for a game but it has to be iap free.

Wow, you weren't kidding. Had a few minutes of down time so I spent it catching up on my favorite thread... some of that stuff is almost physically painful to read.:rolleyes::D

Nice to see at least some of the mods moving the, "I wish it were free," "I'm gonna wait for a sale," "I want it so bad I hope it goes free soon," etc., etc., etc. posts directly into this thread...

TA needs a separate thread specifically devoted to the "I hope this ends up free" posts. It would make managing my "Ignore" list so much easier...;):D

I see this as a meta joke from Game Bakers about the pure asininity of the complaints from TA and some other reviewers about Squids. For many games (including the Squids series), the presence of IAP currency options has zero actual bearing on the quality or fun of the game, yet the mere presence of IAP currency options sends so many into apoplectic fits of frothing and cursing based purely on their paranoid and delusional imaginations.

So, they'll ship a game with a dual currency system and laugh heartily as reviewers find some way to critique how hard it is to earn game pads, how paranoid forum denizens will post about how they're staying away from the game because they're sure with dual currency it will go freemium any nanosecond, etc...

You are wrong, the presence of IAP alters the integrity and perception of the game. Which can be used to measure quality and fun.

Wether you are able to disregard this is an entirely different matter. Something can be said about gameplay that requires a large amount of repetitive grinding to get further (which can be circumvented by IAP).

In games like Squids - 'grinding' is what would have been 'normal gameplay' or 'actually playing the game' on any other gaming platform...

This is true for quite a few iOS games that have included IAPs. The presence of them does not automatically alter the integrity.

LOL. You are either joking or missing the point entirely. Nearly the entirety of the world is based on variable pricing but, ohnoes, introduce it into games that cost less than a fountain drink and somehow integrity gets involved?

Every time I see silliness like your post I wonder if you've ever purchased a car (or a computer, or a stereo, or a TV, or, well, just about anything). If the idea that someone puts a coin doubler or a gem pack for sale in a game makes you spout off about integrity, I shudder at the outbursts you must erupt in at the car dealership when you realize that $16,999 was just the base model and that even something as "obvious and mandatory" as automatic transmission and an aux jack to plug your iPhone in is going to set you back another $3000 for the next package up :D

I'm not sure what parallel universe you grew up in, but what is circumvented by IAP is, in the vast majority of cases, what was, as SV above also notes, used to be called gameplay. Grinding and repetition has been a part of most game design from the beginning.

What's even more laughable is that the Squids games required nothing of the sort to begin with. The game was able to be completed with 3 stars across the board with so many unspent pearls you had to wonder just how incompetent the reviewers were.

Anyhow, I'm going to pick this up tonight and enjoy the meta joke that is lost on the likes of you.

    No need to be insulting.

You have made this argument before. Every time you ignore the fact that quality and fun do not have static values for all consumers. Reception and presentation have effects on these values - since everyone does not perceive things the same way, you cannot say that that it doesn't matter.

IAP arguments mainly stem from currency. From what I have read - addons and extra levels do not seem to be the basis for most of the arguments since you are getting the purchase flat out. So buying a car with the loaded features is not the same thing.

I never said anything about the Squid games requiring grinding. They were completely optional purchases. So maybe it is my fault for not being more precise. But there some games that have pay walls and those are the ones that add to the anti IAP viewpoints.

I get joke, I just don't appreciate someone coming into a thread being disrespectful to people with a view different that theirs. Especially on an issue that was big enough to warrant mentions on the front page of this site as well comments on other sites

At the end of Sanuku's video he goes through the IAPs.... Looks like characters are $3 each and Skraven is $5.... Ridiculous. These prices are unreasonable. Characters should be $0.99 and expansion should be $3...
