We're mad as hell about iOS games that cost money, have ads, and/or any IAP at all.

If you like to get screwed over by devs, by all means throw money at them. I for one am sick and tired of this kind of bs.

I guess we will just have to all learn to live with the dissapointment of your inability to purchase this then.

Yeah because only millionaires have $3 to spend on an awesome game thats better than most of what's out there.

The balance was what made it so nice. Now I doubt I'll play it again.

I too was crushed. I wonder if its the same chap I saw screaming at the Jaguar dealership because of the prices. Apparently he could get a Ford at half the cost.

This is a niche market. On the Mac & PC, this game cost $30 PLUS the price of add-on missions. On iOS, this game is $20 and the add-on missions (great to have but totally optional) are on sale for half price.

As for your pricing theory, premium games can command a premium price. I bought this game at full price AND I bought all the add-on missions at full price, too! I LOVE this game and I am THRILLED that Slitherine made this game for iOS. I'm also glad they keep the price where it is. This game is well worth every penny I spent.

Oh, by the way, there are quite a number of expensive "real" apps on the app store that cost well more than Battle Academy.

Here's an analogy for you: I would love to buy a Ferrari 458 Spyer, but it's really expensive. Should Ferrari cut the price because I want them to make it more affordable? I mean, they'd surely sell more of them, right?

My suggestion is that you try the free version of the game. If you think it's a great game like everyone else, then you'll have to decide whether you want to buy a few good games (or a lot of inexpensive games) that you'll play for all of a day (if that) OR whether you want a deep WW 2 turn based strategy game.

iOS games are one of the areas where I am happy to pay more money for better quality, to support good independent developers, and to allow the free market to work.

We aren't talking about a large company that provides essentially services like food, electricity, medical care, etc. We aren't talking about a company that receives tax monies to provide services. We aren't talking a company that essentially doesn't "produce" anything (e.g., an insurance company into which you put money and then have to fight to get it back when there is an emergency).

We are talking about a relatively small company that actually makes something that is great but not essential. Because the company is small, they need your financial support to make an interesting game.

People's perceptions are strange. This same exact game costs $40 on the PC and no one says anything. There are many games on the iOS that I think could easily sell for that much (Ravenmark and Autumn Dynasty being two prime examples). I think that the iPad is an excellent gaming device and I would be willing to pay more money if it meant more deep games on the iOS.

I don't really understand this mindset anyway. You need a $500 device to play this. Why are you complaining that someone is ripping you off at $20 or $10? I guess what it comes down to is that if you want to play a quality product that took time and effort to make, you have to pay more. If you want to play a flash game that someone ported to the iOS, you can pay $.99.

Any way to tell what thread that rediculous post was from?

  12. Oh oh oh. Pick me pick me

Was it Football Manager 2013 that it originally came from? As it is a new release and it has a hefty price tag compared to most other games on the app store

Ha... Yeah, I would guess FM2013 is the most likely candidate. Sorry bout that, should have just looked for any $10 games that have come out recently...

Seriously, this blind rage is crazy. The early adopters who paid more knew there would be price drops... you pay more to get it early. People who are cheap have to wait. Also, going free helps everyone because it provides a nice influx of players so matches will be fuller, not to mention the added visibility free games get will also attract more players.

As for the update... Isn't this what all the freemium haters always say they will pay for? More content rather than "pay to win" things. Well, they added more content. If you don't want it, just don't buy it. The game remains the same for you.

I can't stand this attitude that small devs are "screwing over" their customers by asking for them to pay for their hard work. They made a great game. This ain't a charity, it's a business.

  15. Agree 110%

    Seriously, you guys are overreacting.
Is this game worth 10 bucks? In my opinion, yes.

Is Lake Effect Applications a bunch of morons? Not in the slightest.

Was it a little messed up that the update description misled people into thinking all that stuff was free? Yes. But that's how the gaming industry works sometimes.

1-starring the game just because you don't want to fork over 5 bucks for the extra content is childish, because the expansion doesn't detract from the actual game itself. That's why it's called an EXPANSION. Grow up. If it really bothers you that much, then simply don't play the game. We don't need to be playing against people like that online anyway.

Like I said, it was a tad bit misleading, but I'm still going to buy it when I can get 5 bucks.

    Seriously, people. Calm down.

It maybe a business I agree but for those who bought the game for the orignal 5 dollars, like myself, then 2 weeks later going free to attract a player base( which is hard to swallow but acceptable) Then an extra 5 for 2 maps. Why not at least give the early adopters a thank you by giving those maps for free or for a buck and charge the players who got it for free the extra cash?

  17. I'm sure LEA will resolve something. I, for one, got it for free, so I feel like I must show them my respects for makin such a great game by buying it. I also got both StickBos.

If the game is worth 10$, it'll say that itself. I just think that it could be slightly unfair. I mean, 5$ is a lot, considering that the weapons are made to be iaped. In fact, I don't even wanna play anymore, since it costs too much. Plus, there's only so much weapons, and there aren't even custom matches. It's just you, stuck with cpu's all the time. It seems limited, compared to what it costs. But, yeah, it's expansion, with just skins and new maps. Not much, considering it could have been like three new guns per class.

Edit: I swear this game lacks perks. The secondary perks are half grenade related.

Yep, thats what makes it even more frustrating.

I love the fact that people are actually defending the devs shady business practices. Supporting indie devs is one thing. I myself do it (I've bought over 100$ worth of IAP in Punch Quest for example) but letting them screw over you THIS hard is another thing entirely.

Also the fact remains that this was advertised as an update, its not before you start up the game that you realize you have to pay for it.
