    Feel free.

Haha. It doesn't annoy me at all, but when I think about it... it does sound incredibly retarded.

That's exactly the point of the phrase. It's like the guy who complained just became the butt of the joke formed by the entirety of America.

While I'm here, do you guys seriously call a shopping cart a shopping trolley?

And I'm absolutely positive that I have never heard the word "normalcy" and that the nation probably has not heard it ever since the train wreck that was Harding's presidency.

I'm sure a lot of people use it jokingly, but I get the feeling the kids aren't always going to notice that and some will inevitably start to use it seriously. Especially as it's used a lot in films to portray "dumb rednecks", saying things like "Boy, I'm gonna learn you some manners!".

I guess we say shopping trolley, but usually just trolley on its own. I don't see the issue with it, it's pretty much anything on wheels used for carrying items. Food trolleys in hotels/restaurants, medical trolleys in hospitals, etc.

I think the difference is that we use "cart" to mean things that are pulled or pushed along to a specific desination, like a horse and cart or "carting a load of goods to France". It's more about the travel aspect, while trolley focuses more on the fact it holds items.

They're definitely interchangeable by now though, no one's really gonna care if you say shopping cart around here.

Huh, I guess it's never really been anything more than a joke to me.

Heh, trolley just sounds so posh to me. I've only ever heard of a trolley being an old-style streetcar. Maybe I'll start using it rather than cart over here. :p

This thread is still alive. Cool.

On another note, i just read the article. I just had to agree with some of those listed, but the others weren't that bad. It was probably because i grew up hearing those phrases, but they don't sound that terrible.

So, who thinks we're going to default for the first time in history? 3 days left. It'd be Boehner's fault if that shit happens.

lol, I don't think this is such a good place to discuss the economy. This thread is for lolcats and jelly.

Anyway, it would suck if your debt goes to default. Not only for you Americans but for the rest of the world. What do you feel the likelihood is that the congress will come to some sort of agreement on how to increase the debt cap and avoid the default?

I hope your right. I don't know much about US politics or the US economy, but from what I've read I agree that it's very likely that they'll come to an agreement before it's too late.

Yeah, Congressmen like their jobs too much to frag their country and completely destroy their chances of re-election. At this point, they're just seeing how much give the other guys will make before they start to compromise.
