So, I figured this would be as good as a place as any to ask everyone something. Is anyone else having crazy sync issues post ios5? For instance, my iPad 2 is plugged into my mac, my iTunes is completely up-to-date, the apps themselves are updated on iTunes and my iPad 2 is up-to-date and has been restarted for good measure. I click sync, and there's about a dozen apps that simply will not update on my device, they just stay in that gray limbo with the loading bar on the icon. When I tap the icon, it goes to "waiting..." mode where you would assume the download has been un-paused and will continue but nothing happens it simply hangs in the "waiting..." mode indefinitely. When I click on the on-device app store it shows those apps need to be updated, but when I click on the update button (on the list-view or individually on the app's page) nothing happens, the App Store ignores the request. When I tap on Download All, nothing happens (keep in mind the button changes colors as if I had tapped it, but when I let go it returns to "Update"). And oddly, when I click sync on iTunes it completely ignores the apps, refusing to update them that way. What's odd is, this isn't the first time this has happened since I downloaded ios5. Soon after I updated my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 to ios5 I updated apps that did the same thing. Every time I selected sync on iTunes, it seemed that iTunes arbitrarily chose one or two of the grayed out apps to updated, but would not update them all. It's very weird, but it's a bug I've only seen in ios5, and I was wondering if anyone has had this or a similar problem. A few of the apps (for example's sake) that are hanging right now for me are ShadowGun, Aiko Island, Siegecraft, DA: Battles, To-Fu 2, Pocket Legends, and more. Very odd...
Well I think I just figured out my problem, so this can probably be deleted. In terms of my iPad 2, I'm simply out of hard-drive space so the apps will not update unless there's enough room for them too. What's odd is, pre-ios5, if there wasn't enough space to update and app the device kicked back an error message that said something along the lines of "could not update because there's not enough space". Now, the device isn't throwing out an error at all, it's just recognizing that those apps need to be updated, or that an updated was initiated but could not be completed so they're hanging in update limbo until the update is finished. I deleted 9mm from my device, freeing up about 1GB of space and presto, the apps updated correctly. Also, I turned of my wifi in settings so that there was no problem with wifi syncing (which still seems buggy to me). What a weird weird thing.
You probably have a lot of space taken up by "other" I've read of other people having that problem after the update the trick seems to be just to first remove then resync the music (possibly apps but you would lose saves) from scratch. Dreadful update by Apple in terms of how hard it was to get everything working again and the sheer number of things going wrong for people although I'm happy now I've got past that.
