I beat the 2nd dungeon. I constantly spammed my shields when I could. For the guards, I ran around waiting for my meter to charge, and then used my dash attack on them. Then, as long as you keep attacking them, they will not be able to hurt you. :)

Ok so I'm managing to get to floor five of the mines almost every run, Humphrey kills me. I'm playing as the warrior and have upgraded as far as I can, most if the stats are one away from full and there's a couple more still to unlock. It's gonna take a while to get the gold up hopefully when I do I can get past the mines. My health is always really low by the time I get there so I don't last long, I'm gonna watch a few vids and get some tips and by the time the day is over Humphrey will be history ( I hope haha)

The difficulty thing, I never said I wanted an easier mode, if one was added I'd probably not play it because I want to beat the game as it is, and Ive no doubt that I will because I'm stubborn and won't give up. Even if I was a natural it would still take me a while as I simply don't have the time to play through the whole game in a day or so it's just gonna take me longer than most and I'm finding it more challenging than most. I dont think that the game should be made easier but I totally get where the people who are asking for a different mode are coming from.

I actually love the game, and have also gifted to a couple of people on here, I'm enjoying it and can see myself getting a little better, it's just slow going for me, and at times feels a bit grindy, that's not a criticism before anyone flames me, it's just my experience up to now, I totally accept that it's me, I said in a previous post that it's me and asked for tips, and I'm thankful for the ones I recieved.

I'm sorry if I came across as awkward yesterday but name calling, esp when because someone feels differently, is something I feel uncomfortable with, but it's the internet and context is hard to get, and like I said, I'm sorry if I annoyed anyone.

I personally love the Spellsword. He is the mixture of the Mages spells, Adventurer's shortword, and Rogue's movement. I love it. :)

The stats help a little, but your skill is what gets you through the game. After playing for awhile, you get better, and therefore, your skill increases.

Use the charge attack to break their shields.

I still have no idea how to use the Cultist properly. I got through the first two dungeons pretty easily by mostly relying on throwing daggers, but that gets me killed pretty quickly in the third. I did, however, take down Amaranth in the most stylish way I could: with a SHADOW ARMY, followed by a single dagger to the head.

Regarding the difficulty in this game, is it more a matter of figuring out what to do, more a matter of dexterity, or both?

I've bought Rocketcat's other games and while I enjoyed them they were just too difficult for me. I'm feeling like I might have a chance with this one if it's more about learning strategies and doesn't get too complex. I have very little time to play so learning complex skill trees and equipment combinations isn't my bag.

Will likely pick this up, but just hoping I don't stop playing because I can't at least somewhat get past it's difficulty.

Figuring what to is simple enough, the tutorial is clear enough I think, you do need to learn what the other characters are like as you can't play the same way with them all, but I'm nit touching the others at the minute, just playing with warrior and my plan is once I beat the first dungeon I'll go back through with the others maybe. For me it's not dexterity either.

I think I've figured out why I'm having such a hard time, I lose a lot of my health when entering rooms where a load of bats charge at once, or loads of boars charge at me, a lot of people are saying to spam the shield but because the swipes don't register the shield doesn't show so sometimes it takes like three swipes to get it to activate by which time the mob has taken chunks out of me, and my health is so low that by the time I get to Humphrey I've got no chance. I currently try to hide around a corner and take mobs out one at a time as they approach since they can't attack or charge through corners but my sword still hits them.

Found my third hat today, the miners hat. So I've gotten three hats in 25 or so hours play time so far. This is just my opinion, but I don't this is the type of game to just pick up and play in short bursts, it's a genre totally new to me so it's taking me a while to get good, you might find it frustrating if you don't have much spare time to play, on the other hand you could be a natural and not need a great amount of time to advance. I'd say to buy the game now as it's going to increase in price with updates, you might find yourself with extra time to play in the future.

I feel like hat drops are less frequent in the cave level. I've only had 1 hat there and found 10 playing the other levels

Well stated. In an earlier post I expressed my concern as I'm not one who traditionally likes rogue games... I'm also not looking for a button masher.

I am going to buy this today before my long business trip to kill time and support the developer who I believe have found a positive no IAP formula that doesn't appear to do sales often etc...

I'm hoping that I'll be able to get past the difficulty due to advancing my character and learning the skills of each of the six etc...

This definitely doesn't sound like a button masher and doesn't rely only on dexterity! This was another concern I had as I am very challenges by touch screen arcade like or dexterity driven games.

Where to start... Ok, no complex skill trees. The game is actually really simple, as far as input goes. For me, the controls are very intuitive and I never feel like I need to remember anything or that I'm fighting them. The controls in Zelda are no more, or less, complex. Most of the difficulty in the game can be mitigated by strategy. As cloud mentioned, luring some of the enemies out of a room, vs fighting them all in a big pack, makes a huge difference. After that it's about knowing attack patterns. Most enemies have 1 or 2 attacks. You dodge, use your shield, dash to avoid them, then attack. The strategy of combat is akin to a Roguelike. If you treat it like that and not an action game you'll do much better.

As for hats, I don't get it. Some on here are getting a bunch of hats. I'd be surprised if I'd put in much more than 5 hours. Got 10 - 15 hats. Are you guys making it through whole dungeons? It seems like I mostly get them late in dungeons.

I'm sorry to disagree but I'm not having fun playing this game. I use the Rogue, since I find the other two frustrating, the control is bad, and you end up wasting you limited defense options. The rogue is the only one that can, actually, dodge and provide some strategy.
I die, I start over, I get it, but I'm not progressing at all. 4 or 5 floors. The character progression is a joke. I understand the kind of game this is, so no leveling, no numbers seems cool, but, maybe keep the forge upgrades for the next run? I always die in almost the same spot. I find no interest in playing again without any rewards for your character. I understand that difficult means slow progressing. But slow is not no progress at all.

Maybe I'm wrong and it's just that I'm not understanding the game or that I'm playing it wrong. If that the case, please, enlight me.

Please, don't tell me it's about improving as a player. I,be been a player my whole life. I loved starfox (as a referent in "improving a a player and star over"). And I see very few possibilities for improvement here.

This said, I'll give it another run, just to be sure I don't like it ;)

this is how the 'hat chest' looks -to get to it you gotta pass many small rooms, 3-4 enemys to every room till you reach the chest
i collected 36hats till now in 8h of playing
most of them found it in the normal coin chests
the one i have in ss is the rocketcat hat -i think is much rare then other hats ^_^
