There's a lot of people that aren't. I haven't seen any who received the hats, but some might have gotten them.

Neither of my devices, installed on different days. What exactly and how many hats do you get from the start? Can the paladin wear them?

I always play a wizard in my games but in this one I found her to be a bit underwhelming. One, because her mp depletes really fast and two, because her main attack has to be in line with the enemy to hit. In this case I miss a lot because of this.

I prefer the warrior since he is bulky and fast imo.

    No, no way

Now I've seen this argument and suggestions many times before. Perhaps the most recent is in regards to Volgarr The Viking. Volgarr is an action platformer on PC, an unapologetic hardcore, old-school difficulty game. I've played it for six hours and never beat the second level. It's that kind of hard.

Many have asked the developer to add an easy difficulty or add more checkpoints. The developers have said that they'll never add those things or change the game to make it easier

Wayward Souls is the same. It shouldn't be changed. IMO an easy mode shouldn't be added.

Why? Well, firstly, games don't have to cater to everyone and not everyone will enjoy every game. But more importantly these kinds of games, very challenging games like Wayward and Volgarr and the Souls series and others, the difficulty is not just an extension of the mechanics. It's the core of the game, what makes the experience what it is. The difficulty is what makes each victory so satisfying and rewarding, what makes practice and skill so critical. To cheapen the experience by playing in an easy mode is to play something other than what the developer intended, to not experience the game in its fullest potential. Progress in these kinds of games is more than beating the boss and getting to the next area. It's the whole struggle that preceded that, every attempt, every poor decision, every defeat, and how all those moments made you better as a player until you were able to overcome and proceed. Without that, if the game is easier simply for the sake of progress, then the experience is just lessened. It loses something.

So I don't want to see an easy mode added. Idk, maybe that seems selfish

    i understand your point.
but, if the devs add an optional iap -easy mode unlock for .99$ -this way they could win more$ to bring us more hardcore updates and they will please the customers who are having trouble enjoying the game. they should please both side and win more money to keep the updates comin'
is not that bad ... just my opinion

edit: these days you gotta please all type of potential customers -is the only way to make$

I can't speak on the spellsword or the cultist, as I have neither unlocked (and I think the difficulty in unlocking them may be what is causing people to ask for buffs to the rogue in ways that are redundant because of the cultist, along with why there is few SPELLSWORD OP claims) but I would say, for me, it would go Warrior > Adventurer > (somewhat big gap between Adventurer and Mage) Mage > Rogue.

Honestly i love all the classes. Each has a different feel, and strategy to use. Rogue is one of my favorites, but relies heavily on getting a good floor plan without certain enemies. As said before if you encounter enemies that summon other mobs you had better hope you have a bomb to drop or can get to them fast otherwise you will probably get overwhelmed. Where as the warrior can practically stand still and swing and wipe out a whole room.

That being said I hesitate to even recommend a change for any of them. I have a lot of fun discovering the nuances of each and everyone. I dont think they need to be perfectly balanced to be honest, people are going to have their style preferences. If people find the game to hard, they may naturally gravitate towards the warrior for a sense of progression. If they vastly prefer the style of a different character they will practice, and progress with that character. Of course maybe some will just ragequit, but a roguelike probably isnt for those people anyway :p

Kepa have away a few promo codes. Most of the people who got that code, have the hats. When Kepa organized that contest before the game release, he also gave promo codes. At some point, some people started not receiving these hats. And since then, nobody has received them.

It is as if only a short amount of people could receive these hats. Now, Kepa is trying to resolve this issue.

I think I'm going to delete and reinstall my game to see if the hats "come back". It's a horrible feeling of losing the 4 hats I've already gotten and wiping all that coin I made / beating the bosses but I can't stand it that the last 9 hours of play time I've gathered a big fat ZERO hats. I don't believe that's just horrible luck. I hope a reinstall fixes it though it bothers me that I got hats early on so this "bug" may happen again after something triggers it.

I am convinced to give this game a shot due to the overwhelming positive feedback from everyone.

If I end up not liking it, I can at least rest happily that I am supporting a dev that wont make this game free in a couple weeks, am supporting a dev that cares about his customers, and supporting a dev that doesnt add the scourge called IAP to a premium game.

Thats worth my 5 bucks even if I DONT like the game. Which of course, I hope I will :)

    strongest: the warrior

weakest: the mage (can be v good after you master it, but don't recommend it for begginers)

    my fav.: the rogue

Don't delete it. I already did. No luck on the hats. Just wait. Kepa is trying to sort it with the first update. I guess if you're getting no hats you could give it a go. I won't be deleting again though.

As for the characters, I think it really depends on the upgrades you get. Can't comment on when they are maxed.
With all the early health buffs the adventurer is a tank and I'd rank him near the top.
If you upgrade the mana regen for a Mage, you can spam shots and stop enemies from attacking. Close range enemies are useless against her.
The warrior is a little slow when it comes to dodging ranged attacks. That's pretty much the only downside. As mentioned before, the shield pretty much deals with that.
The rogue really is the hardest character to learn. She is deadly when used correctly and almost invincible. Except when you encounter mobs. Mobs are deadly to her unless you have some items saved up.
I can't comment on the other classes. Just beat the first stage with these characters, time to start on stage 2.

I would also like to add what I really like about this game is how different each class feels and the fact that each class can have many playstyes, also just beat the Mines with the Warrior

Funny, once I post my last message about the class balance, I unlock the Spellsword. Let's see if I like him, will probably report back tomorrow since it is somewhat late here now.

    EDIT:
This is a good sign! Found it in my first guaranteed hat chest! It actually looks quite nice on the Spellsword.

Mage IMO is hands down the best class for clearing the final area. My first attempt ended up at 8th floor (due to a few stupid mines -_-). Her charged shot is soooo good at clearing monsters and luring them over to the next room. She's also damn good against tormentor, who has been giving lots of problem to melee attackers.

Okay, Adventurer is pretty cool, but I'm having a very difficult time beating boss 2 with him (have done so with everyone but him and cultist, who I have not yet unlocked). He seems to be somewhat of a defensive character, which is cool and all until you get to a boss and have a close-range attacker with few to no offensive tricks. Tips?

Also, I was so overwhelmed when I first tried the 3rd area (in an awesome, "I'm gonna have so much fun learning and overcoming this" sort of way). Like everything was new (as in completely original and nothing borrowed from Mage Gauntlet) and I had no idea how any of the monsters attack patterns went or anything. Died really quickly the first couple of times, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. The third area has 9 floors, correct?

Indeed, the third one is 9 floors. In my first try I got (and died on) an ashen cult floor, but those new enemies are scary looking. Actually here was my initial reaction:

"The Fallen Kingdom makes Amaranth Keep look like Dear Esther"

I think that still stands for how I feel.

So, the Spellsword. He's... interesting? Definitely not as good as the Warrior, and I think it really is due to the fact that the shield is so good and reach > DPS (especially since you can't stay and wail on an enemy in this game). I need more time to decide if I like him or the Adventurer more, though. It could go either way for me.
