I'm on the fence with this game. After reading everything it seems that the game is amazing! My concern is 1) I'm not a hard core gamer and am not the biggest fan of rogue games since I'm afraid I might get frustrated but I do like the sound of this game since you can develop the character so it seems hybrid rogue as not starting exactly from scratch each time...? 2) not a fan of arcade games in the iPhone & iPad and I guess what I define as an arcade game for the purpose if iPhone or iPad is very busy action since controls in touch screen are sometimes hard... I'm more if a strategy guy since I have a bit more time to react. This game seeks to be a bit if both that it's not just go all out crazy on attack but definitely is more action oriented. 3) definitely bummed that I can't start the game on iPhone and move to iPad and back to iPhone. To me this is a major advantage of universal games and I hate to have to decide which system to use as I am not one to want to play with two different saves I want one that works in both devices. Is this game more arcade/action or a bit of both action and a little strategy? Congrats to the developers for what appears to be an amazing game without a bunch of IAPs! Your thoughts?
If you don't like hard games and if you dont like dieing over and over again but getting coins to get better this game might not be for you, however this game will get a lot of playtime if you enjoy those things, trust me its hard and I really enjoy it, for people that like a very Challenging but rewarding games I can easily recommend this
Great game and well worth the money. Although I'm not 100% satisfied. Miss the automatic screen rotation badly, classes don't feel balanced at all (Rogue is a joke), the music sometimes fits perfectly sometimes sounds too lush and easy listening like for my taste and all in all, although it's full of detail, it still feels a bit cold, don't know why exactly. But nonetheless, will put a lot of time into this one. It's one of the better indie games in the store. And I'm happy to see that a game that's no freemium bullcrap is climbing the charts. PS: I don't care about hats, never did
I'm in the same boat as you with points 1 and 2 (point 3 doesn't apply) and I'd say it's well worth a punt. 1. Yes it is a rogue like but there are levels/checkpoints and the ability to level up using coins that you don't lose when you die. I'm not a fan of traditional rogues but this provides enough incentive for me to replay after dying. 2. It's action based. Yeah not much you can change about that. I've had a few issues with the controls but others don't seem to have had. In an ideal world I'd never use a touch screen for an arcade style game but that's the nature of iOS stuff I guess.
Is it just me or is this game too dark? Been playing alternating this with Mage Gauntlet and I have to increase brightness to 50% on my 5S when I play Wayward. Usually I stay at 25-30% on my games.
Well, it's certainly not a turn based game, which sounds like the kind of games you like. Even being real time, it requires quite a bit of strategy and isn't some typical iOS action game. For example, button mashing won't get you very far. You need to understand how the enemy will attack you and what the specific character you're playing strengths are. So it's very much skill based, which is a rare breed for a real time action-y game on iOS. It's also why people are calling it the "Dark Souls" of the iOS platform and that's true. You need to be very methodical in your approach through areas. This combined with the difficulty and diverse range of characters really makes WS fantastic. So if you decide to pick it up, it might take you a bit of time to get accustom to the faster play, but it isn't super fast, requiring the fastest of reflexes. Just knowing the proper exploits in the situations you're in - if that makes sense. You'll still need to be quick, but not unreasonably so. It is tough though, but for me and many others the good kind of tough. The kind where you say, "My next run will be so much better!". Indeed. I was referring to what Kepa said about releasing a completely separate game, closely resembling WS but F2P. I'd wager a large amount that WS won't ever go F2P as RC is one of the few developers on iOS that doesn't budge on their pricing. It's definitely a good thing for us premium game supporters. If prices on the App Store were more like RC - staying consistent and not dropping every other week - I can't help but think it would foster more quality games by enabling developers to profit more properly.
Why would the characters need to be balanced? It's not like you're playing against other people. Essentially at this point you are getting 5 games, some harder than others.
@Kepa: There's no jailbreak protection or something is there? I just want to make sure there's no game design that makes it so it's harder to get hats? I bought the game legitimately though my device is jailbroken. I'm just trying to find the reason for the hats not appearing. Takes half the fun out of the game.
Because you can't please everyone. Every character has their strengths. Adjust your play style to suit them and you're good. It isn't as easy as just playing with the character. It also requires you to adjust the behavior in which you play. I've had a hard time keeping myself in check when switching players. My Warrior has been leading the way but when I switch to the Rogue, I gotta dial it back, paying closer attention to the scrolls I have. The Rogue has that awesome slide ability, along with her stuns and backstab, there's more of a system in playing her efficiently.
This is the gaming experience I have been waiting for on iOS. I would agree the game is a bit dark, and an auto rotate would be great. Amazing work guys.
The classes don't need to be balanced. What needs balancing is your approach to each game, depending on the character you choose. You simply can't use the same play style for each character and expect to do well. Do you mean the rogue is underpowered? If so, you just need to master the backstab, which you can do in two ways. First, kick/stun and stab anywhere (counts as a backstab). Or, just dash through the enemy and backstab. Once you get the hang of that, she becomes a formidable character, especially when you upgrade accordingly.
Okay a couple questions (Im new to this thread so forgive me for not reading all 22 pages) A) I heard talk early on about early adopters getting hats. Is this true? B) Is it too late to get said cool hats? C) Any other way to get these alleged early adopter hats? D) Im sceptical I will like this. Im not a fan of these type graphics (Im not hating on them, just not my thing) Does the fighting style feel similar to any other big known games I might be familiar with? E) Thanks for any help
Ok, cool. I probably missed the part where that got discussed. I think they should totally release a separate F2P version if that makes sense for them. I know they had some trouble with the punchquest profits (unless im mixing up my developers), and im glad they're trying the incremental price thing. I think it's totally fair. And as for quality games in the app store, thats an interesting point. As an older gamer, I can't help but feel that the ios generation doesn't want/ can't get the same experience my generation did from games. If you had told me 15 years ago that one day, you'd be able to pay 99 cents and continue the game, or buy a powerup, i woulda called you crazy and told you that they have that already, and it's called the arcade. However, this is a more connected generation of gamers, which is cool on the one hand, cause the hobby as a whole is becoming more socially acceptable, and you have things like people playing ""insert game name here" with friends"". I totally get why a separate version would be cool for casual gamers. What ticks me off, is when a developer changes the base code of a premium game, makes it free, and adds F2P elements to it, in order to appeal to a generation of gamers that can't deal with not having instant gratification. Thats like, unthinkable to me. So i paid a higher price, specifically to avoid all that "buy two rubies for 99 cents to continue" crap, and now you added it? I tottally get that when you buy a game, you're actually just buying what's called a user license in legalese, but i sincerely enjoy this one, and woulda hated to have it ruined like that lol.
Oh boy, being a tiny bit critical in this thread isn't well received, I see Balance between classes is absolutely normal in this kind of game. The play style should change, yes. But the overall challenge is ideally even. Otherwise I just keep playing with one class and ignore the rest. Take Cardinal Quest 2 (although turn-based, yes) as an example, where the play style is even more varied between classes, but all are fun and more or less of the same difficulty. At least, that's something important to me personally. And don't get me wrong, I love this game.
