Holy crap, I just beat the gold dungeon. I thought it would never happen. Here's what happened: The first 1-4 dungeons I passed without fault. Full health, full shields and full throwing axes. I also had two health potions and two hourglasses (they are very good for the final boss. I thought I may have the tiny chance to actually get up to the boss this time. But, as I probably could have guessed, I messed up completely. On the 6th floor, this one room got me from full health to like a quarter, depleting all my shields and axes. I also used up the two health potions. At this point, all hope was lost. I thought it was over. It was so sad. But then a miracle happened: something I could only dream of. Two whole floors. In a row. The exit was right next to the entrance. Two whole floors, without fighting a single thing. I couldn't believe it when I got up to the boss, at near full health with two hourglasses. Of course, the boss fight was probably easier than a fight against one of those flying scraps which shoot purple spells, as I had the two hourglasses. So to all you folks who haven't beaten the gold dungeon: never give up. I hope this story is inspiration to you, not only in this game but in real life too. Never give up, nothing is impossible Thanks for reading. I am now more than ever looking forward to the next dungeon.
I similarly saved up hourglasses/offense potions for the boss. Made her/it very easy actually. But that gold dungeon is still an awesome pain for my other characters. Almost there on my Adventurer now (my favorite class). Feels really great to beat the gold dungeon, huh? Now when I replay the first two dungeons, they feel almost like cakewalks. Part of me wants to ask Kepa if they could tune up the difficulty in them a bit. Perhaps "game+" versions for those who complete the game?
I registered on this forum just to say how much in agreement I am with this post. After dying over a 100 times in the gold dungeon, I finally beat it with Warrior. There is no way in hell I will be able to beat it with any other class. I lucked out in several ways; I got Stonehack level II and Stonebeard Shield which I believe are the best upgrades; I grabbed two hourglasses and flame sword potions for the boss, and like popjam, I had two exits right next to the entrance. Personally I think the difference in difficulty between silver and gold dungeon is too great and welcome some of the changes coming in the update to alleviate this. That said, I am so glad I completed this dungeon before Stonebeard shield count gets nerfed from 18 to 11.
After the update every boss will have a rare hat chest after it. 8 floors after the update coming soon. It got shortened by 1 floor. The new dungeons will be basically this anyway. They'll use old areas (with some new ones) but with much higher difficulty.
Will the average room be as hard as the average thorned room? Because I've found some of the rooms you say are from the fourth dungeon and rarely appear on the ninth floor of the third, and the four-five I've found are all fairly easy. I don't think the room difficulty should be as hard as catacombs where one big room can kill you, or one tough floor can slowly chip away your health to zero.
Maybe. If it doesn't hit tonight, it'll probably be like on Thursday. Those rooms you're finding are difficulty level 4 or sometimes 5. The new dungeon is difficulty 5 for most of it, with difficulty 6 after about halfway through. Higher difficulty means more possible enemies, and stronger enemies in the group on average. I'd say the difficulty is overall as hard as catacombs, but there's more "wiggle room" for luck maybe. The thing with catacombs is that the enemies work really well together, and with the new all-monster-mix groups how well they work together is random. Anyway, you'll see.
I much prefer the Thorned Shield. I beat the gold dungeon with constant mobility, and especially since attacking is necessary to put away the shield, using Stonebeard hung me up sometimes, whereas Thorned Shield (especially the lvl 2 version) killed some enemies on its own. Really helped in those later levels. Agreed about Stonehacks though. I always went for Ratblade too.
Looks like the update got approved, so it's slowly going to make its way to the store. Can probably be downloaded later tonight, I forget how long it takes. Thorned was probably my favorite before, though now the others are pretty good. Off top of head I think Thorned has a durability of 6 where the new mirror and obsidian shields have 8. Also reflect is a lot better now, so the mirror shield is like the caster version of the thorned, just a little heavier. In Update 2 I may buff Thorned in the next update to also have 8 shields, or to have no speed penalty at tier II. Also Stonebeard may be put back up to 12 shields, depending on how people like it. 12 is way different from 11, because it means 4 durability per shield pickup instead of 3.
! *mashes update button* ...Oh, right, the hats. ...No message about receiving early adopter hats. I tried opening and closing the app a few times. I think I already found one randomly. Oh well, whatever. I'll just find them randomly then. I'm not really complaining.
Mage total health looks the same? I have it fully upgraded. Edit: nevermind looks a little bigger (that's what she said) And forgot to say....thank you Kepa
