Both of these games are great and should be purchased. With every update, Wayward Souls will increase in cost by $1. So for maximum cost efficiency, buy Wayward now.

I personally like the Orange/Black upgrade, the belt of the trickster and the exploding knifes(I didn't know about this upgrade till just recently but I like it alot better than the other ones)

Still, compared to the SpellSword(who IMO has the best upgrades) She doesn't have that great of a selection. Between the Phaseblade, the Desperate edge, The Phoenix Plume and the one that can steal energy from magic users..these can all be usefull(and that's just his Weapon), compare his weapon upgrades to the Warriors and its huge difference considering his main/starting sword is probly his best.

Ranking the character in terms of upgrades -

SpellSword - great selection all over
Adventurer - Great downswipe upgrades ,Good Weapon upgrades, decent up swipe upgrades
Mage - Pretty good up and downswipe upgrades, Average Staff upgrades
Cultist - Decent upswipe upgrades, Limited but good downswipe, and poor weapon upgrades.
Rogue - pretty average to bad upgrades all over.
Warrior - desent axe/glove upgrades, horrible weapon upgrades, Limited shield upgrades

That, and Battleheart Legacy has some really frustrating bugs at the moment. If you plan to eventually get both, I'd recommend going for Wayward Souls first and holding off on Battleheart until the bugfix update makes it through the review process.

I never said he wasn't good, He can be great and definitely has good upgrades. All I mean is he's another sword user and that there's already enough of those and he's too much like the warrior(i think the Shield and longer sword upgrades were a bad idea cuz they make his even more like the Warrior) I dunno I think if he used a differnt weapon it would help distinguish more as his own character.( if he used something like a chain or a bow even an axe it would help)

On a completely differnt subject I never understood why the Rogue is holding a bomb?(guess just for decoration, but man it would be cool if she could use bombs,or better yet let the Adventurer have them.)

Anyways, I remember Kepa talking about a possible new character that would be similar to Link, Using varying differnt tools like a bow, bombs , boomerang etc.. This is what I think the Adventurer should have been. Replace his moves with bombs and a boomerang or Bow and arrow then he can have that sword.

    Oh well...

Now that I have all the Characters(I listed multiple choices for each with my Favorites first)

Warrior(Nothing too special here, A bigger Sword and Shield are nice but not necessary. Steel plate is a great defensive upgrade/ Blackend Guantles good offensive. Thorned Heart can give you some extra offense)

    Dull GreatSword/Skull-hack
    Steel plate/ Blackend Gauntlents
    Stonebeard Slab/ Thorned Heart

Mage( Generaly I like the triple Crit. bonus, Fulgerite Rod is nice for hitting multiple enimies, I like Earth for both swipes with Gelid Embrace as a last option for dealing with heavy magic)

    Silver Eye Staff/ Fulgerite Rod
    Pyremagi Codex/Earthshaper's Lexicon
    Typhoon Mantle/Tremor Garb/Gelid Embrace

Rogue (Energy consumption is very important for the rouge making Dancing Grass almost Necessary , Atta's bite and The Gutter when the former isn't available. The You can either go for poison or stealth upgrades, Finnally Giant stompers for dispersing big crowds.)

    Dancing Grass/Atta's Bite/The Gutter
    Giant Stompers/Hushslippers
    Gnashers/Toadskin Cowters/Black cat Bracers

Adventurer( Sunnebrand is nice when you need health if not you can't go wrong with the Giants Knife or Bitter Wind. Tears of the Ice Queen or blast Marble both work well depending on your preference for slowing enemies down. Finally you can either give yourself a shield or stay more tradional with the Shadowfume or Torch.)

    Sunnebrand/Giants Knife/Bitter Wind
Tears of the Ice Queen/Blast Marble
    ShadowFume Lamp/Orvar's Shield/Torch of Wispfire

SpellSword (lots of choices and possibilities here. I generally like Desperate edge and Frenzied Scales when low on health if not the Phaseblade and/or Vambrace of the Mist. The Spellsheath is pretty much a must unless your going for the triple fire combo of Phoenix Plume, Blood Bands and The D.Leather Spellbinder)

    Desperate Edge/Phaseblade/Phoenix Plume
Spellsheath of the Hummingbird/Blood Boil Bands
Vambrace of the Mist/Frenzied Scales /DrakeLeather Spellbinder

Cultist( Belt of the Tricster is the only real must here, Generaly stick with Old dagger if you can't find a the Brisance Knife. The color bottles just come down to preference as they all can be usefull, Although I like the Strait upgrade with Orange if not, black and blue work too)

    Brisance Knife/Old Dagger
    Shining Orange/Wintry Blue/Ominous Black
    Belt of the Trickster/Startouched Sash

Have people decided on one class/combination of upgrades that's close to easiest to beat the gold dungeon yet? I'd just like to get past it the first time to unlock the cultist, at least.

In my opinion, spellsword with vambraces of the mist, spellsheath of the hummingbird, and phaseblade

Wow, finally beat the gold dungeon with all the characters. That took quite a lot of practice with each character.

The warrior I think is the easiest to start off with, although now that I have more experience I'm not sure which would be the easiest to win with. The rogue was the toughest for me by far.

    Anyway, here are some:
Rogue tips to beating the gold dungeon:

    1. Try to draw enemies out of a room. The 9th floor had a room with probably 15 enemies in it and I never would have made it to the boss if I wasn’t able to take care of half of them outside that room
    2. Use the teleports to your advantage. Your energy bar is your lifeline, so sometimes I’d teleport into a room with my power attack ready to go, take out one enemy, then dash toward the teleport and recharge and then go back into the room.
    3. After you use a flash bomb, you may want to then use a charged attack on the blinded enemies, that way they are stunned first and you’ll get extra damage. Depends on how many enemies you have and how much time you have though.
    4. The Thorned Custos and the Thorned Insidiators can both be taken out by a charge attack followed by one stab. So that was generally how I tried to kill them. The Custos I’d usually wait for them to leap and stay at a safe distance and then charge attack then stab. The Insidiators I’d wait for them to lunge and then charge. When one of the Thorned Insidiators came out of stealth, I’d usually try to dash through them or dodge rather than use a charge attack since I’d usually get hit otherwise.
    5. I fortunately had 2 hourglasses and a shadow twist elixir so the boss was cake. Which makes me 6/6 against the boss, but I’m not sure how to actually kill her with melee without items. If I got to that situation I was gonna try to watch one of the play through videos because I didn’t want to have to try to get to her again ha.
    6. The most useful items for getting to the boss are in my opinion in order: Big Stunner, Flash Bomb, Shadowtwist elixir, Blight Bomb, Time Dust, then Blade Venom. Like the other classes don’t be shy about using items when you are in danger.

That’s all I can think of. Thanks again to all the contributors in the forum especially Ashflow for putting together that wiki. Kepa congrats again on such a ridiculously amazing game and for being so active in the forum.

Now for a much needed gaming break…

Really? I beat with rogue on my first and second tries (probably luck), but mage took a lot of trying. I don't get hit a lot as any class, but one small multi-wave room was pretty much the end for me, and there was always one on the eighth floor. I think that warrior is the easiest to start with, but once you master the controls, spellsword is the best because of the dash

I found with the rogue that none of the upgrades made a huge difference so I don't really remember honestly which I ended up with on my winning run. Whereas some of the other classes certain upgrades would make or break my chance to beat the gold dungeon. Kepa has buffed the upgrades for the rogue though (see below). I just wanted to beat the gold dungeon before they fix the extra health bug from the Warrior’s gift upgrade because I don’t think I’m good enough at this game to win without it ha. Although that said the first and only time I made it to the 9th floor I had full health but that was probably a fluke because it was probably my 100th time playing as the rogue or something ridiculous like that.

These are the upgrades I’d personally choose in order of preference:

    Dagger
    - The Gutter - (Dashing through an enemy hurts them.)
    - Dancing Grass - (Reduces the energy it takes to dash or power attack.)
    - Blind Eye Skean - (Confers a chance to inflict critical strike damage upon magic casters and absorb their energy.)
    - Atta's Bite - (Endows a chance to inflict poison upon an enemy.)
    - Mirage Poinard - (Bestows a chance to gain a faint stealth on dashing.)

    Boots
    - Hush Slippers - (Grants a bonus to the duration of all stealth abilities.)
    - Giantstompers - (Empowers your kick, damaging enemies and launching them away.)
    - Slick Kicks - (Lets you slide under and trip up enemies, stunning those you pass by.)

I’d skip either of these until after the update
    - Whirlwhip Greaves - (Endows a spinning kick that will stun and reflect spells in a circle around you.)
    - The Tormentors - (Replaces your kick attack with a stabbing charge.)

    Straps
    - Nullguards - (Absorbs one enemy magical attack per floor.)
    - Oiled Armlets - (Slightly increases your running speed.)
    - Gnashers - (Grants a bonus to critical strike chance.)
    - Black Cat Braces - (Confers a bonus to stealth and invisibility duration.)
    - Toadskin Cowters - (Grants a chance to inflict a stunning poison when struck.)

All those rogue buffs seem great. I’d still love some stats on the upgrades. e.g. How much of a critical strike chance increase do the gnashers give you vs how much of a bonus to stealth do the black cat braces give you?

The mage took me a lot of practice too don't get me wrong, but once I got good with her, the gold dungeon is relatively easy since you really don't need to be good against the fire or zombie enemies since you can just stay back and blast away. The rogue requires a you to be expert with a dagger against every single enemy, which I think IMHO takes the most skill out of all the characters. Everyone else has either a sword or a long ranged attack so there is a bit of a room for error. The mage just takes some skill to get good with her character, but not so much against several of the gold dungeon enemies.

I don't recall the name of the sword, but it's the one that gives health when moving to the next floor.
I tried it yesterday, and it definitely doesn't break the warriors shields.
On the plus side, the default lantern stun does break their shields.

Pretty good Update I guess... I think the Cultist should have some minor buffs but whatever... I dunno I'd make some changes to all the characters probly.. There's always future updates I suppose.

How did you guys beat gold with the adventurer? Such an odd character. What upgrades do you try?

I had the giants knife and the level two shield, as well as tears of the ice queen, so I was a warrior with a slow and I was faster. The adventurer is very versatile.

I just checked out Bitter Wind and Sunnebrand because of this comment and both broke shields easily...

so I can only think of three explanations...
    1) you're misremembering (I don't mean this in a bad way, I'm just thinking of potential explanations)
    2) you went up against Glume Duskguards, which have super sturdy shields (although it very unlikely that you fought multiple in a row)
    3) there is a bug but it isn't consistent, meaning some people have problems with the upgrades and others don't
