    Hi everyone,

We wanted to give you a heads up on a game we've been working on which will be launching on the app store.

Wastelandia is a free, settlement building and resource scavenging simulation game coming soon for iOS (iPhone, iPod & iPad.) Set after the events of "The Event," your job is to build a thriving settlement for the surviving denizens of the world - now known as Wastelandia.

For now, here are some of the things you can expect to find in Wastelandia:
    • Over 30 buildings to discover - from Wastelandia's very own Casino, to a full blown Nuclear Reactor.
    • Over 100 items to scavenge from 15 different locations.
    • Recruit over 20 specialist characters to give your settlement extra abilities and protect your settlers.
    • Scavenge for building materials by sending out scavenging parties or through an upgradeable mining and lumbering game.
    • Protect your settlement with fortifications - from simple scrap walls to high-tech tesla fences.
    • Plenty of mini-games to earn extra rewards.
    • Wastelandia will be free to download and play!

We have some more information and a load of artwork previews over at our site http://www.wastelandia.com - we're also running a little contest where you can get a portrait of yourself drawn and included in the game. There will be finalised screenshots and a trailer for the game available soon.

We're hoping to launch Wastelandia in the next few weeks. Any questions or comments can be directed to [email protected]

    Thanks for your time!

Hello, the game sounds really cool! I have submitted a couple ideas so far, but it would nice if I knew more about the game, so that my ideas are more relevant. Is it a top-down view, 3rd person view, etc...? What kind of combat mechanic is used, if any? I'm envisioning something like the original fallout games, but I'm not sure.

Hi, thanks for your kind words! All the submissions so far have been exactly the sort of thing we're looking for. It's a top-down view and mostly focused on growing and managing a settlement rather than combat etc. We'll be posting more information about the game really soon - along with screenshots and videos once some final bits of artwork are finalised and in the game.

So would it be a little bit like The Last Stand game on Facebook?

I'm not really familiar with The Last Stand sorry. We're only a small team of 3 friends so a lot of the events in the game are story/text driven - with the player having to decide between choices which affect the outcome of an event (sort of like mini gamebook adventure type quests.) There are some events however which occur on the map around your settlement and building construction, resource production, material gathering etc is all played out on the interactive isometric map. We'll hopefully have more to show next week as it's a bit hard to put into words!

I am interested but when I hear the word "free" it's a big turn off due to all the sloppy exploitative freemium models. I just want to pay a fair up front price and would be disappointed if developers try to tell me that any IAP is option, because they deserve profits, or that it is IAP driven, because consumable IAP is not fair market for App Store standard pricing.

Ditto. The title grabbed my attention but my interest in the game dissipated quickly when I realized that this is probably going to be yet another unbalanced freemium game where people pay to win.

While its true that there are a lot of exploitative freemium games we have tried our best to design Wastelandia to be played without the need for in-app purchases. There is an in-app currency but it is optional, there is nothing in the game that cannot be gained through normal play through or requires in-app purchase.

Basically there are two ways to play the game, actively and passively, actively playing means having the game open and partaking in the various tasks available, while passively playing involves building and expanding your settlement in real-time with the game closed for periods of time. While actively playing the game, you gain in-app currency very frequently whereas while passively playing you get less in-app currency.
