Was Opera Mini rejected from the approval process?

I think it has been at least 2 weeks since Opera Mini was submitted to the app store. I know the approval process can take a bit longer than you would think, and especially after the flurry of iPad app approvals, it's expected to take a little while :p

But isn't this a bit longer than usual to wait for an app to be approved?

I hope Opera Mini wasn't rejected. I don't see why it would be, but you never know.

It looks like a great alternate browser, especially with the huge speed increase over EDGE. That's something I'm extremely excited for because I don't actually use my 3G all that often. My 3GS sometimes feels a little gimped in the battery department, so I do as much as possible to make sure it doesn't lose too much power. And 3G eats that power up like it's nothing... so I turn it off :p

Anyways, back to the topic: Yay/Nay? Is Opera Mini still coming?

I believe it was rejected, yes.

I did some digging a couple of days ago, and read somewhere that it was rejected for no given reason.

  3. Or it's just "lost" in the approval process, like ADD. Or that other app from the documentary.

Opera is my browser of choice on my computer. If this gets approved I will never touch Safari again. (Maybe that's part of the issue.)
I'd heard earlier that there was some contention about Opera using Flash. I don't know how that played out.

Not true. As long as the code that runs on the phone conforms to the SDK, that's all that matters. That the data it receives happens to be routed through a server that modifies it to compress images/transcode Flash/whatever to make it better compatible with the iPhone has no bearing on anything.

In fact, even now, pretty much anyone can set up a server that'll do this and configure Safari to use it through the iPhone's proxy or VPN settings. The only obstacle is bandwidth.

I cannot believe it's been so long. This is the one app I really really want and don't care how much it costs.

Safari is total garbage, granted it's better than other browsers on mobile phones, the opera demo was just amazing!

  13. I think they won't let it in

But it is interesting to know the reason why...

I loved using Opera mini on my previous smartphones because the included web browsers always sucked. I don't have any real issues with Safari on my 3GS but I would love to try this one out if it gets approved.
