Well, Pocket Tactics gives it a five star review. I mostly follow Owens reviews (That's how I discovered Panzer Corps!) so I might give this game a try (it's version 1.1 now).
I especially like the 51-page, very detailed PDF manual for the game. http://warsandbattles.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2&sid=5b872a5416c07e5a38c20e18e1c84c1a
For victory points you have to take cities and each turn you get points. But do you have to keep those cities occupied (a unit on them for the rest of the game) to generate points each turn (cfr battle of the bulge), or is it enough to just keep those cities in your zone without a unit on them?
I get lost for hours in them. Open panzer is rough around the edges but the content is staggering. I bought ALL panzer corps, all 60 worth lol.
Bought Battlelore and this game, Wars and Battles. Been playing Wars and Battles for a few hours and my god, this game is good once you understand the C and L modifiers! Very deep strategic game. You start the first scenario's just by stacking units but after a few games you learn how to stack,(armour with infantry or same division etc. according to the situation) and you learn how to attack (armor vs inf on clear terrain etc.) 5 stars!
Great game but 1 annoying bug If you play the game in 2D mode which I prefer, it gives that great hex and counter board game feel, when you destroy a unit the counter stays on the map even though the unit is gone. Switching between 3D and 2D clears it but hopefully it is fixed soon. Otherwise this it a top tier strategy game...if the planned expansions are released.
It has 51 pages but they forgot to mention a ratio modifier : the divider bonus = C1 modifier (ratio +1 for def) if the majority of the attacker strength is crossing a river.
About The Grand Campaign IAP. Is that more of the same? or is it a bit different? One thing I don't like about these historical strategy games is that in order to win you have to achieve certain objectives within a set number of turns. Is The Grand Campaign the same? I prefer futuristic strategy games that are not based in and trying to emulate history, and where you continue to play till you either destroy your opponent or are destroyed. How does the Grand Campaign play?
How can I interpret this Score Victory? This does not make any sense to me and it's not explained very well in the manual. Can someone please explain it to me? Snapshot
Every turn Périers is and stays captured by your team (you don't have to keep a unit on the spot), you get 10 points, at the end of the game 20 points : you've got 0 points = you didn't captured Périers Every turn Carentan = 10 points, at endgame 20 points. You've got 60 points so probably you've taken Carentan and hold it for 4 turns (=40 points) and kept it at end of game(=20 points) 40+20 = 60 points Each LP the enemy loses, you get 1 point = 8LP = 8 points Link for questions about the game : http://warsandbattles.com/forum/index.php
