Games that try to take a Nintendo formula and swap in another IP are more often misses than hits. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. If Hank Hill is at all viable, I’ve got a main. It looks like it has a bunch of shows I’m at least familiar with. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 12,982 699 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #3 squarezero, May 7, 2022 I think you are right to be wary, but Detonation Racing is a good game, and I’m hopeful that they will nail the fundamentals. And yes, Hank Hill will probably be my main as well . Actually, I’m partial to Bobby as well! Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 485 210 43 #4 Rocksaint, May 20, 2022 Out now. This is actually not a bad game. For a kart racer. I’m not a fan of those TV shows but the racing is pretty fun and solid. Worth a try at least. Baron Cappuccino Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Aug 1, 2011 261 13 18 Member-Owner Steampunk Cafe, LLC Plainfield, CT #5 Baron Cappuccino, May 20, 2022 It is unashamedly Mario Kart, down to the added hang glider mechanics from later entries. Plays well though. After two races being forced to use Peter, a solo and traditional tutorial race, I picked Hank for race three and it was more of a weapon pickup arena free for all not too different than the old balloon popping arena mode from the SNES original, albeit without balloons- just a hit tally. Looks to have a whole lot of unlocking. We’ll see how it goes. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 12,982 699 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #6 squarezero, May 20, 2022 Mario Kart is a huge “inspiration,” but I’m really impressed by the level of polish and the quality of the gameplay. The animations are really great, with a lot subtle nods for fans of the show, and the VOs are done by the original actors. The main control scheme is virtual joystick based (with buttons for drifting and attacks) and it works surprisingly well. The tracks are not as wild as what you find on Mario Kart or Sonic Racing, but they are well designed and fun to drive. And the AI makes even the rookie cups challenging. Oh, and it seems to run around a steady 60 fps. Of all these properties, I’m only a fan of King of the Hill. But this has quickly become one of my favorite kart racers on iOS. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,456 906 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #7 macplash, May 20, 2022 I wish I knew at least one of these TV shows so I could enjoy the game more. But as a racing game it’s really a lot of fun. Very polished. Controls are responsive and feels very natural. Looks like there’s a lot of content too. I love the amount of achievements (Gear Club should be ashamed with its lousy one). I’m definitely spending some time with this game. Worthy addition to Apple Arcade. Skall and squarezero like this.
