http://toucharcade.com/2010/03/29/exclusive-two-new-warpgate-trailers-released/ More goodies! Sorry I had to just keep dodging the question. But this was all in works apparently.
Also you can see more up-to-date screenshots on the website here: http://freeverse.com/iphone-os/product/?id=9015 The trailers are a bit behind in tech (they don't have some of the final artwork or glowmaps).
I'm wondering about an iPad version too. Hopefully it will be one of those universal apps. It looks pretty sweet from the preview video. Almost reminds me a bit of Sins of a Solar Empire (pc).
I've been anticipating this game for months now... and the first trailer... was... a little cheesy. I still have a high hopes for an gaming experience similiar to Escape Velocity... the gameplay video certainly looked more promising. The only thing I'm dissapointed in is the lack of ship customization. That was one of coolest aspects of EV.
Really excited to see the new footage. There seems to be a bit of variety with ship designs which is nice to see. Some of the backgrounds are beautiful - there was one screen when the background was a huge star. What makes this game unique in the app store as of the present is the combat - it's 3rd person, strategic naval type combat instead of the 1st person shooter that we see in Galaxy on Fire or the upcoming Dangerous: Null Space. I agree with Patton that I'd like to see a degree of ship customisation! And now, more questions for Hippieman =) 1) Do you have any fleet control options, or are we just limited to controlling our own ship? 2) Can we turn off the space grid? Thanks!
No it will not. Regarding fleet options, the game is single ship focused. The reason behind this is triangles. Each ship is made up of a number of triangles. And we can only put so many on screen. Early on we made the decision that if we wanted to have large impressive ships we had to sacrifice things like fleets. Combat is limited to 7 participants (6 and yourself) and the game worlds try to juggle how many ships can enter a system. When you zoom out all the way, we vanish all the ships (they are replaced with icons). So that is why there are no fleet options. It is just you vs the universe. The Space Grid is always on. I don't think you will mind. It's small, and translucent. And it helps figure out where you are and how fast you are going. Price has not been announced yet, but I know it will be under 10 bucks. There will be an iPad version and a iPhone version. This is due to the different assets each loads (when you land on a planet/space station there is a backdrop graphic. On the iPhone we only load a 480X320 image, on the iPad we load a 1024X768 image). There are other places where the assets are different to fit the game. The iPad has a completely different UI to adjust for the device. Lastly regarding ship customization. We'd love to revisit this either in an update or a sequel.
Hippieman, will there be a dual version like say I want to purchase one for my iPhone while another for my iPad do I have to buy both or will there be a discount?
You will have to buy both. I don't know if there will be a discount (I'm not sure if the app store can do that). But we will try our best. The game is not a UB due to technical reasons, not financial. We are actually making some changes right now for the iPad version.
